03 Expy sound system

I probably should have included this in my other post but another question for the Expy-erts. What's up with the sub-par sound system in the 03 Expy. I have the 6 disc changer factory system and it is nice to have the changer in the dash, but it really doesn't sound all that great. Is there any way to boost the sound quality ie. changing speakers, adding amp etc. w/o replacing the factory unit? If so what would you suggest? I like the look of the factory system in the dash and would like to keep it if possible.

I am also looking to upgrade my system , but like the look of the factory 6 disc. Thinking about alpine sps-570a or infinity 6802d for replacements. Check out crutchfield.com pick out a couple of pairs and do a price search through yahoo. You will save some dough!
Crutchfield price was 109/pair for the alpines. Dealnet.com had them for 156 for 2 pairs incl delivery.

Does anyone know if the OEM stereo will power nice speakers or will we need to supplement the OEM with an amp? Can an amp even be added?

Take any amp that has Speaker Level Inputs... Or even the Convertors from Speaker Wire to RCA plugs.... Run from the speaker wires to the APM and then back to the speakers.... I did that for a year before swapping the HU as well... Now well lets just say it can get kinda loud in there
