2006 F150 5.4 2WD extended cab tow package 24k miles
My power windows have stopped working from all locations. I checked and the fuses are good. I can no longer use the exterior keypad to unlock the truck, yet my remote keyring switch will electronically open both driver and passenger doors. Neither driver's nor passenger's interior door switches work. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks...wormshoe.
I agree with Norman. Have seen it multiple times. If you repair the wiring yourself be sure not to make your repair where the wire bends. If you do it will not last very long. Splice in so that the new wire is what bends and your splices have as little stress on them as possible.
Excellent suggestion sir! I appreciate both you and Norman jumping on board. I was getting closer to admitting defeat and bringing it to the dealer, but now there is a ray of hope. ;-)
This morning I tried it before leaving the driveway and nothing worked. No surprise. I stopped for coffee at Racetrac and tried it again before leaving....and everything worked except the keypad!? After driving another 9 miles, I tried it again and the door locks and power windows (all positions) worked. Left the marina about 1 hour later and nothing worked!
At that point, I was seriously considering having a drink...and I don't mean finishing my coffee. I will let you know what develops tomorrow. Thanks again to both of you. wormshoe
Sorry about the delay getting back to you.
You were right about having a broken wire in the harness.
The ground wire (10 gauge) broke in the middle of the harness under the rubber boot. Perhaps Ford could have used multiple ground wires for the door's electrical loads or made the single 10 ga. ground wire more flexible by giving it more strands.
Thanks again for the diagnosis. You were spot on!
