driveline vibration

Hey guys, i got a question. I got my 77 ford truck w/four wheel drive half ton with a np435, 351M and i was wondering if a bad or worn bearing can cause vibration. i can feel it by the pedal when i accelerate from 50 to 65. I dont know if thats my trans or maybe the pilot bearing? I need some help, any would be appreciated

Could be anything.

Does this happen in either 3rd or 4th?

Does it stop when you let off the gas?

I would look at u-joints, and check the driveshaft for straight.

Pilot or trans bearing is going to make noise all the time.

Driveline U-joint would be the first thing I check.

just in fourth gear, i havent yet checked the u joints yet i kinda figured since i can mainly feel it where my foot meets the pedal, i was leaning towards the trans? but ill check the ujoints first.

U-joint, in my experience, will vibrate under a certain load and a given speed, but in all gears at that speed/load.
But they are probably the easiest thing to check first. Just be aware if it's seized you can't tell without removing the drive shaft so that you can move the u-joints by hand.
Also look for thrown balance weights, it's not uncommon.

someone told me to drive it where the vibration starts then throw it into neutral, so i did just that and it sounded like a rock in a can kinda sound or something almost similar to it. is it suppose to sound like that by trying that method?

i looked at the ujoints and the one towards the front of the transfer case seems like there's resistances and not enough play to move back and fourth, the back ujoint moves freely without any resistances and seems well greased. the guy i had replaced them ujoints used just a flat cheisel and a hammer to put em in and gave it back to me the next day. i looked at it and kinda thought maybe it should have some play back and fourth but i could barely move the other ujoint caps with my hand. should it be like that or is that normal?

Remove the drive shaft then check ujoints. Many times a joint may feel good but
when actually looked at are ready for PB&J . Cuz they are toast.

Well fellas i fixed my vibration problem, my ujoint towards the tcase was the problem, i could barely move it from back and fourth so i replaced it and made sure it had slack to move with no friction. took it for a drive and walla it was fixed!!!
