Used Detroit Locker
I have been watching a couple of auctions on ebay for a used detroit locker for a Ford 9". A couple of race shops here around NC sell them stating they are used in Winston Cup cars for 1 race, or maybe 1,000 miles. Does anyone have any experience with a Detroit Locker that could offer their opinion here? It seem to me like the units should be just fine. It is just like a professional motocross racer runs a new chain for each race. No sense in taking chances with that much money on the line I guess. I am just trying to save a buck on a used unit.

it would really suprise me if winston cup drivers are using detroit lockers. It seems to me the negative handling characteristics would be a problem at 150 mph into corners.

Winston Cup cars don't use locker type carriers. They use live axles (spools). In the old days they used slightly different size rear tires to compensate in the corners, but todays radial racing tires take care of that problem. You can usually find good used traction lock carriers for from $100 to $200.
