check for fuel?? on the back of the fuel filter there is a drain, open it, turn the key to the run position. Do you get a good stream of fuel? The stream will be on the passenger side of the block. Have you inspected the fuel filter?? do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key on? Its located on the frame rail under the dr side door. Take the fuel line off the suction side of the fuel pump.Blow air back into the tank. The screens in the tank may be clogged..Do a search here on the hutch/harpoon mod..
Did u replace the Glow plug relay too? When it cuts off, does it wind down slowly or does it shut off instantly?
Those have steel tanks and it could be trash in the tank clogging the fuel screens. After it sit for 20 mins, it floats away and will crank again until the next time.
Checked Fuel Pump And Lines , Pumping Diesel Through With A Good Strong Stream . Was Looking At Gauges While I Was Cranking And Oil Pressure Stays On Low For A Bit Then When It Raises Too A Higher Oil Pressure It Cranks Over And Sonetimes Starts
YOU SHOULD NOT USE ETHER.... it can cause a diesel motor to run away !!!
also it could be a IPR going bad.
a bad IPR will let the truck stall after it gets warm.
Did you try, unplugging the ICP ? it is the censor on the front of the driver side head. unplug it and try to start it. unplugging it will set the pcm to the default fuel pressure setting..
The ICP can go bad also because they start to leak oil in to the electrical plug..
Have you checked the tinnerman nut on the IPR? That can cause all sorts of weird problems...especially wanting do die at idle. Could also be a bad CPS. Could also be a broken pickup foot in the tank...is your fuel level below 1/4 tank when this happens?
There are so many things that *could* be wrong. Have you pulled your fuel bowl filter and looked at the bottom of the bowl? It could be clogged up with a bunch of junk in the bottom of the bowl. It could also be a sticky Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR).
As mentioned, you need to get this hooked up to AE and diagnose it better. Don't get rid of a great truck that might be suffering from poor maintenance and might be fixable for relatively low dollars. Post where you are located, and maybe one of "The Brotherhood" with AE lives close by and they can come help troubleshoot for you...
