Power steering conversion
I have a 1973 f100 4x4 dual shock front and I'm converting it to power steering because it did not have it when I bought it....I pulled the entire front and rear axle along with the whole power steering unit off of a 78 bronco....I now have the steering box mounted in my frame but the problem im having is the steering shaft is not long enough(I did use the entire steering system off the bronco including the steering column. Is there any safe clean way to lengthen the steering shaft? I need about another inch so it will reach the column where it needs to be,is it adjustable ?

i swapped in a 79 Bronco system into my 73 but dont' understand why yours is short. Visit the tech info hyperlink sticky for integral PS conversions.
Pics would help understand your situation. But if ya replicated the 78/79 system, then everything should be located per that later model year. You do know that the pitman arm has to point forward, right? Otherwise ya'd turn the steering wheel left but the suspension will turn right. in order for it to work as designed, the steering box has to be pretty much up against the track bar bracket.
To lengthen a steering shaft, it'lll need to be cut, sleeved, and welded.. rosette welds too... or even cross-pinned.

Well the problem is the PO completely boxed the frame in where the power steering box would set and the gear box he used was set way towards the front of the truck and the steering shaft was modified horribly to accommodate it...I'm putting it back original but upgrading to the 78 power steering, instead of cutting the boxed inner part of the frame I decided to weld studs in place where the mounting wholes would be and bolt it down,my mistake was I set the steering boxe back just a bit to far and it doesn't reach,I'm going to have to cut the studs off and do it again😞
