Time for a new engine.

When i changed the plugs I noticed in cylinders 3 and 4 the plugs were COVERED in oil and my truck smokes more than a diesel. 3 days ago the engin started knocking. I think it's time for a new motor. it is the 5.0 and I want to put a 5.8 in it. roughly how lonmg would it take for me to do that? what tools will i need? Anyhting i need to know? The ECM will work with the 5.8 right?

If you're handy, you could do the swap ina few hours. I'd give myself a long weekend just to be safe because Murphys law always pays a big role in my projects.

Did this swap on my 90 f150, biggest thing would be the flywheel. Do a search of this topic, there are several good threads.

The swap can be done in a matter of hours if everything goes right, and you have EVERYTHING needed. I'd give yourself a weekend or more to do it just to be on the safe side.

Good choice going to the 5.8. There's a lot of difference between that and your 5.0. You'll especially like what you'll have in the low end torque department!

That's what I have been hearing. I'm looking at going to a 351 block to replace my 300. I was planning on doing a 393 stroker with a nice head and cam setup while I'm at it.

I'd probably prefer your 300 over the 351. You've got some decent low end torque, and you can get much better fuel mileage than with a 351. If you've got something else to drive for MPGs, then go all out with the truck. If it's a DD, you may want to consider fuel cost.

I have a 3 minute commute to work. When we go on trips, we take the wife's car that gets about 35 mpg on the road. I think a built 393 will make a lot more torque than a 300 could ever dream of.
If I knew more about diesels, I'd throw in a turbo 7.3 but I think that swap would be more involved than I feel like getting into.

You need a complete 5.8EFI motor for this swap as nothing but the accessories and brackets will interchange, and it will run on a 5.0 computer but it'll run better on a 5.8 version. I say collect everything you need and give yourself a weekend to complete the swap, there are always seized bolts and stuff that consume more time than you think it would.

I ised to have an f150 with the 5.8 and the E40D, that thing hauled ***. I raced a 2003 mustang with the 4.7 and destroyed him. I miss that truck.

4.7? Either that guy was running a 289 Windsor or you got your late model Ford engines confused with GM junk.

2003 Mustang came with a 3.8 V6 or a 4.6 V8 from the factory.

If you really smoked an 03 Stang 4.6 in a truck with a power-sucking E4OD... that's pretty good. Must've been a regular cab 4x2 cause I doubt my SuperCab shortbed 4x4 would be able to do it. Or the Mustang driver couldn't drive for crap, lol.

Yeah, that's pretty good. I smoked plenty of sports car drivers when I had my truck set up with the 460, C6, 4.56 gears, and 33s. With the gearing, that thing would take off like a bullet if you could avoid wheel spin. 2550 RPM at 55 MPH was the downside to the gearing... Now with 37s it can turn lower rpms on the highway, and I like being higher up.

I'm going with a Mustang with major problems. I had a 2000 gt with a t45 and even in stock form, not many trucks out there would have a chance. Could be driver error though because I beat a pulleyed 03 cobra in that car.

Yeah sorry but I have to say that the Mustang driver didn't know what he was doing. The modular engines don't make low-end torque like our pushrod engines do, but once you get one wound up it will pull. Not that my 351 is slow, she'll burn the 31x10.50 tires and get moving, but she ain't as fast as my 460 truck was. Which was also stock, complete with air horns in the intake tubes because I didn't know such a thing was hiding in there on those engines. Wish I knew of this forum back then.

When the 351 quits, it's getting a few "adjustments" before going back in.
