Hey guys, well found some awesome "Easter eggs" that the PO left for me to discover. First we're the 2 rivets broke out where the front crossmember (piece the motor mounts and axel hinge brackets are mounted) attaches to the frame.
Replaced with 2 half inch grade A bolts and did make a diff when driving. After that I thought I would check all rivets, bolts, and nuts. Found more issues.
The brackets where the axle halves hinge, were lose as well. Tried to tighten but one broke and the other 3 were worn to bad to do anything with.
My ? Is, does anyone know where I can get these bolts other than the dealership? I'd use a standard hex head bolt but clearance is an issue.
Used 4 1/2" bolts. What a difference. If, when, I buy another truck w the twin-traction beam I will definitely be replacing bushings and checking for lose bolts and cracks.
I have several pics but have never had much luck (patience) posting them. I'll try to get them up.
I have seen loose bolts and brackets for the front traction axles on a truck with less than 12K miles. Talk about an ANGRY customer! From that day on I always inspected front crossmember brackets and bolts on any 4x4 or 4x2 truck with front axle noise (clunk or knock) complaints. It is not uncommon to find them improperly torqued, loose, missing nuts or broken bolts. Good to hear that you got it fixed!
