My friends service truck just died on thursday. We tried to get her running again, but couldn't It was towed to an independent shop, where they replaced the hpop. I recommended the stc fittings/dummy plugs and blue fuel spring. They claimed that was a 22 hr job! I was thinking, they didn't want to do that work! The ford tec that worked on my on a saturday, was done in a lot less time. This truck has less than 50k on her, working very hard with heavy local loads.
if it took the guy 60 hours would you be willing to pay.
its all about book time, not real time. some time you win some times you lose.
that said its a little high. dealer should be 14-16 hours.
I know this job is hard work, but since he was doing the hpop, wouldn't it be less time?
I know its hard work and a lot parts half to come off. Yes I/he would pay because he needs his truck now!
removing the intake has nothing to do with removing the valve covers. warranty time guide shows no overlap of labor for the job.
iirc there is a tsb for it as well. pretty standard to see tsb time + 50% for customer pay labor too
All this is speculation of course but I was thinking misdiagnosis. It's common for non 6.0 savvy guys to see the low high side pressure to simply slap a pump in it. Then when there's still problems you get to buy the rest of the parts ("it needed a pump anyway") If they don't know to check with an air test they may not know about an STC fitting either. '07 with 50k mi with a failed HPOP seems unlikely. If they replace the pump seems like a STC replacement would be a no-brainer also. If your going to do the blue spring for him that would save a few bucks and is a good idea but that wasnt the reason the truck died. Leaving the standpipes and dummy plugs to do - and may have been part of the issue in the first place-even though they probably didn't cause the truck to die either. Did the '07's have the updated pipes/plugs from the factory? Did the pump fix the truck? Did they reinstall the original STC fitting?
