I got really lucky

Last night some friends of mine convinced me to get out of bed at 2am and go to a firends house. So we go over and I was there from about 2:15 to maybe 4:30 just hanging out. When I come out to drive home I get in my truck and realize that my stereo's face plate is gone and so is my CD case. I guess that I don't even need to say that I was really Freaking mad. my friends tried to calm me down but I was just really pissed. so any ways I go home. go to sleep intending to call the cops in the morning. I wake up and call the non emergency line and the lady is like hold on just a second. all of a sudden I am talking to a detective that tells me that he thinks my property has been recoverd and that he is sending an Officer over to take my information. Apprently what had happened was these 2 kids (about 20yrs.) came into town and got really drunk and thought it would be fun to see which cars they could get into. and I guess I forgot to lock my car. but someone saw them and called the complex's security service and when they guys saw a CPO (Crime Prevention Officers) roll up they split one guy on foot and one guy in a car. They caught the guy on foot about 300 yards away in a field and the other guy tried to drive through a fence and hit a bulldozer on the otherside. He got out and ran and got away but they have his car and the other guy gave up his name. Good news is I got all 44 of my cds and the face plate back this morning. apprently only 15% of stolen goods ever get returned. But anyways they guy they caught has had some minor priors and a drinking problem because he doesn't remeber doing anything that night. The other guys is apprently a drug dealer who tossed some pot out the window as he drove a way but because it was secrutiy guards that don't have cameras they can't really pin the drugs on him but he did have my stuff and like 3 other peoples stuff in there.

So my question, I guess, is has anyone else had this expereince or one like it? And would y'all press charges? I think I am going to. The detective said it will probably be a felony charge but they will probably plead guilty and get probabtion.

I got really lucky

Please press charges! My wife and I came home one night and the dead bolt on the door was locked. That was kind of curious since we didn't lock it when we left. First thing we noticed was that all our DVD's were gone - we had 22. Then we saw that the bedroom had been tossed and all our money and coins were gone. I went to my office and the back door was standing open. They must have heard us coming, dead-bolted the front door to slow us down and booked out the back door. All the TV and stereo stuff was still there. They just took small stuff, but it added up to over $1100.00. Insurance covered most of it. Nothing was ever recovered. A lot of it was personal stuff like a couple of real old silver dollars my mother gave me. If I could get my hands on those kids that broke in I'd hurt em bad - so by all means stick their butts in jail til they rot.

Almost forgot. The next day I went out and got a home alarm system. Cost about $200.00. Wireless installation and sets off an 85 DB alarm inside the house and a 100db alarm outside the house then calls up to four people if the house gets broken into. The first on my list was 911. I guess some places won't let you dial 911 like that but good old Live Oak don't seem to mind. I set it off by accident a couple of times and they called and asked if everything was okay.

I got really lucky

I had about $4000 in stereo stolen from my college car. A neighboor saw it going down and ran the guy out of the apartment complex. We noticed a car that didn't belong to anybody in the complex and that the trunk was not completely shut. Upon further inspection, all of my stereo and many others were found in the car.

Unfortunately, they rendered much of it useless the way they tore it out. They just yanked out all of these nice amps and x-overs with the wires still plugged in. They also tore up my dash trying to get the deck.

I had a lot of money and even more of my time in that installation. many of my friends still claim that was the best sounding car stereo they have heard.

Alpine deck
Custom Greg designed door panles housed 6.5" JL mid bass, alpine 4" mids and BA tweeters.

Rear- Polk 4" mids and tweeters

Sub- 1 AVI 10" computer tuned advanced 7th order band-pass

Alpine 6 way x-over- sub, rear mid, rear high, front mid bass, front mid and front high.

(2) 4 channel alpine amps, and one bridged PPI amp on the sub.

All speakers had independent amplification and x-over controls.

Many called it a mobile concert hall.

Wrecked in a single evening by some thugs.

Why can't people just leave other peoples stuff alone :-(

At least you have the option of pressing charges, & felony charges at that. In the "Great State of MS" (ha ha), CAR THEFT is only a MISDEMEANOR, & I guess they have to be caught red-handed to be charged with anything. My mom's car was stolen. A few days later, it was found stripped (motor, tranny, radio gone, interior trashed, personal belongings gone) IN A GUYS DRIVEWAY!!! The cops said we couldn't press charges because they couldn't prove he was the one who stole the car. Even if he wasn't, he should have been charged with receiving stolen property. This guy got a free motor & tranny, radio etc. & nothing was ever done to him. He was never even arrested. We even had to pay the $75 impound fee to get the shell of a car back! This was in our wonderful capital city of Jackson, which is ranked in the top ten cities for car theft nationwide. Local officials can't seem to figure out why it has this ranking. Hey morons, maybe it's because littering has more criminal consequences than car theft! Sorry for the rant. I guess this is a long way of saying "Yes I would definitely press charges".

my nephews car just got broken into or whatever... 39 cd's, all gone... i keep telling him that all the people he hangs out with are the most worthless people ive ever even met, but hes an idiot too and maybe he gets what he deserves. it wasnt a random theft, somebody just happened to know that one of his car windows doesnt quite roll all the way up, more than likely one of his "really great friends"

My grandfather and I were putting in a wood floor in my house (yes it belongs to my parents but i refer to i as mine [an if you didnt know, no i am not a bum who doesnt hvae a job and his parents bought him a house, i am 14]) we cut a peice of trim in the garage and took it in to put it on the floor. only about 5 min later, we went outside and our miter saw was gone. The person who lives behind us said he saw someone come out of the garage and drive in a u-haul truck, so apparently they are making a career of it, but they arent doing very good at it seeing as they left the probably 5 pound, $800 nail gun and took the probably close to 40 pound, $300 miter saw???

The Politically correct answer here is to give the "kids" a chance. I figure most of us have done some stupid things in our lives and the ones I remember are the ones where I got caught and had to explain myself and/or accept the punishment. I don't remember the ones that I got away with or was given an easy time of it, at least with out sitting and thinking about it.

Press charges and let the judge or attorneys deal with them.

I got really lucky

thinking about it now, i got really lucky last night also...

friday night i went to a party, and saw a kid i knew from 2 years ago. he was with 4 friends ive never met before. anyways, they left. then my buddies left. then me and my woman left. it seems that when the first group left, they must have keyed one car, and a pickup. so saturday night, i get to a different party, an according to some of the dudes there, I must know who keyed the vehicles, just cause i was talking to them. so suddenly, 5 dudes are kind of around me, i only had one buddy with me so i was out numbered. i think i managed to talk my way out of it, since i was alot more sober than them, and smarter anyways. im glad it ended that easy, i will not tolerate 5 dudes messing with me, for something i didnt do. needless to say it would have gotten nasty, ive always got an axe and a shovel in my truck, and a knife in my pocket. if it comes down to me or them; i wont be the one in the E.R. im glad it didnt end that way.

I got really lucky

Today I went and offically pressed charges aginst the 2 guys. There will be 2 warrants on each of the, one for B&E auto and one for stolen property. The detective called the sheriff of the town where the one guy who got away lives and knew exactly who to go get as soon as the papers were signed. apprently he has been in some trouble before. The bag of pot that he tossed out the window was all divied up in to one ounce bags like he was going to sell. Basically these 2 are in trouble now. The detective was sure that they would plead guilty because they will get a lesser sentence plus they were caught red handed with my stuff and some other people's stuff.

What I found was very wierd though was that if none of the other victims come foward and make a theft repot (which none of them have) the stuff that the police have goes back to the guys who stole it. Because they can't prove its not thiers if no one else claimed it. even though they had 4 cd wallets and no CD player in the car (not one that was connected to work in that car anyways, but they did have someone else's CD player).

They will be arrested again very soon...have an araignment (sp?) then probably get out on bond then have a grand jury in 4 months or so when the Grand Jury meets again. Then if they plead guilty they are sentenced right away. If not there will be a trial soon after and I will be supenaed as a victim and have to appear in court.

Im sorry dude I now know how much that sucks. and I know that I got real lucky getting my stuff back so quickly. But that night I was just wishing I would run into the guys walking down the street. Hopefully the guys who hit you are just as dumb as the guys who hit me.

Did they bust windows or anything like that? Check the pawn shops too. i know people who have gotten their stuff back like that.

press charges on the dirtbags... they need to have a record documented, or they will do it over and over and over again.... its not like they are going to do hard time... it always gets plea out before trial, you might have to go to one hearing, but please do it....

Charges have been pressed. The guys already have some minor offenses but now they are gonna have a major one esspecailly if anyone else comes foward to say that their stuff was stolen. Because my stuff alone was estimated at $910 and its $250 for it to be a felony here in Alabama. and if anyone else comes foward they will have some more dollar value tacked on to that and some more probation cause they will probably lead guilty to avoid Jail.

I got really lucky

Over a year ago I got back to base from leave over Christmas, came outside that next morning. Some punks (dependents prolly) had broken into my truck, drivers door was unlocked, they broke my dome light so noone would see (with my own screwdriver) they took my speakers that i did not have bolted down, my CD case, they ripped off my dash and tried to get the CD player, it has a removable face, so they ended up breaking the face off and could not get the CD player, out, so I took it to Wal-Mart and they replaced it. Even though I did not know who did it, I could have filed charges against the SPs on base and gotten over 700 dollars back, but I was to lazy to file charges. The base pays for it because the SPs did not protect my vehicle from theft...

Yeh! Too many of 'em don't get caught. Thanks for prosecuting the ones we can catch.
