I have a 2009 Lariat Crew Cab, 6.8 w/410's and put an Airaid CAI on before we headed to
Colorado and Rocky Mountain NP. Heavy headwind out in western Kansas and towing our
25 ft trailer up and down the mountains avg. was 10.5 @ 70-75 mph for the entire trip out and back. I have Flowmaster cat back exhaust to put on hoping to get a little more boost on the mpg. Get between 12-14 when not towing if you can keep your foot out of it.
You will love the v10 engine. I have it in my 2004 Super Duty and I get 9-11mpg towing a loaded 16' trailer and 15 mpg on the highway unloaded. This is with 3.73 gears.
Well I got 15mpg @ 65mph bringing it home, real happy about that. Now back and forth to work I've averaging right at 12.3. The big thing is learning to keep my foot out of it. Easy on the throttle works the best. But all in all very happy with it. Also can't get over how good it rides!
Now my 2008 Ford Superduty has 3.73 gears & 4 x 4 extended cab. Dual exhaust, K&N Filter & custom forced air box. Tires are 285/75/16 and recently I got a Y-pipe from MIKE'S and it sure made that V-10 of mine sound better and run a heck of a lot better on the highway and the hills. Not to mention pulling loads. It opened up that 1 inch diameter hole that Ford put in the factory exhaust. Cost was $100 & $40 for installation, best and cheapest thing I have done to the truck so far, with excellent performance afterwards. If a person with a V-10 truck does nothing else, it will pay you to change that Ford exhaust pipe and get MIKE'S Y-PIPE!!!
I just got my '99 F250 super duty and my first two tanks I got 8.5 around town. I contacted Mike at 5 Star tuning and got the tuner he recommended...I'm now getting 10.5 using his performance tune. I'm going to try the economy tune next. Since I only pull an 18ft aluminum jon boat, I really don't need this truck. I just like it!
I think the next improvement will be a new exhaust from 5 Star and then the cold air intake. Any other ideas from those of you with experience? Thanks in advance.
