I have a '99 ps. Once the truck warms up it dies. It won't start again for 20-30 mins. This is a problem I've had for awhile that has just gotten progressively worse. I have replaced the ICP & that seemed to fix the problem for a couple of weeks then it started doing it again. I heard to check the IPR but how do you do that?
Could it be something else?
Thanks.
J
You will need an engine diagnostic scanner such as AE to check the IPR. The IPR controls the pressure of oil going from the HP pump to the injectors. It gets a pulse-width modulated signal from the PCM which electrically controls a valve that regulates the oil pressure.
AE will allow you to look at the percent duty cycle being called for by the PCM and the resulting HP oil pressure. If you see the PCM calling for progressively higher percent pulse width but don't see a resulting increase in pressure the IPR or it's associated wiring is probably bad.
There are several threads on here that explain it in more detail, but that's the basic idea.
Just went through this. Truck had been running rough at times when at higher speeds seemed like it was starving for fuel and would die. Had to wait to start. Finally just quit. Most said check uvc connections so I just went ahead and replaced the harness. Finally found someone with AE and it said low oil pressure from the HPOP. Was lucky to pull the IPR and disassemble it, De gunk with carb cleaner, reinstall and I'm back on the road. Long story short Find someone with a scanner. I did more work than needed.
