How doesnt coolant disapear with out a leak?? Through the exhaust... There's only so many different assumptions or guesses that you can make and your running out... You gotta have a leak somewhere internally.. Did you do the coolant test for exhaust gases?

Yes, always. I'm not sure the tech today checked the coolant for proper balance, or even if that would cause it. I've added so often it might be out of balance, even though I pre-mix it and keep it in a gallon container.

For the record I always lost a little of the coolant in the summer when towing. My oa's always came back clean.

Not the extent of loss that Stanley is experiencing. So it is being pushed up into the degas bottle from something.

I think I would be looking at those t stats right now as a possible cause. They maybe hyperextended.

I talked with the tech about the Tstats. He was of the opinion that I would have a difference of more than 15 degrees between coolant/oil temps. I've not exceeded that even on the hardest pulls. And the coolant temps are good. At the top of the hill yesterday the coolant was 211 degrees and cool right down to 200 after the event.

Is there anything that would make the coolant expand more than it should. I was very careful yesterday to fill to the bottom of the cold fill area and I did it when the truck was absolutely cold. Still, when the coolant was hot it looked like the tank was very close to being over full. Then if it went up 10 more degrees would the coolant expand to the point it took the path of least resistance (the cap) and released. Todays another day, but I think I'm out of hills.

Here is a thought. the new style degas bottle I beleive has an adjusted line for the full mark.

Maybe you can have a look at one and use that as a guide and see if that helps.

Just an idea.

Stanley, how are you mixing the coolant?? 50/50. 60/40/ etc?? I know this guy has been beat up quite a bit on some of the forums, but what he says here kind of makes some sense as he talks about pressures and mixtures. When the cap doesn't hold the pressure constantly, the result is expanding coolant and puking. Just throwing this out there for consideration. I am sure to get blasted by someone for even posting this. But it may help, may not.

Just for the record, I lost no coolant and had no pukes today. I ran out of hills. I do a mix 50/50 and try to be careful with it, I am concerned that in all the adding of coolant and the flushing I did at 60,000 miles I may have gotten the mix out of whack. There is a specific freezing level that the coolant will be at and when I find it again I'll test and see if it comes out right. I'm thinking more and more that the problem is something in that area. As for now, I'm just gonna go home and deal with it then.

I'll make you feel better. I need some coolant as well. Got this new 2013 and I have just over 1K miles on it now..I need to add probably about a quart or so. Got to get at the dealer though.

Was full when purchased.

Senix that shouldn't make him feel better. You shouldn't need to add coolant with a brand new truck either. We should be getting a better product from Ford. Think about it, they've had enough years now dealing with coolant( many different issues) issues on our 6.4's and now 6.7's. These engineers just cant get this figured out or they really don't pay attention to these dealer repairs or care. The dealers are guessing on many occasions from what i've been watching since 2008. I know your repairs have been spread out a bit , but you did have a few problems with your truck.
sorry for the soap box. just frustrated

OK, I'm home. Trip was uneventful, but long. I still am adding coolant and had a little spatter after some hard pulls but the truck was great and the temps stayed cool. I'm gonna send my oil sample off tomorrow and see if I can find a test kit for exhaust in the coolant. I'm still stumped and not crazy about paying anyone else to tell me they don't know what's wrong. The good part is I don't need the truck now so I can take my time. If I ever get it figured out I'll just start a new thread as this has gotten too long and anyone who reads it all the way through will end up a s confused as I am. thanks again for all the help.
