How hard is it to change the rear gears? I have 4:10 gears and do not like them.. if anybody has the 3:55 (i guess thats what they are) and want to trade they can feel free and come over and swap them out.. i wont charge anything
Does anybody know, where to get a different set ?
Don't know of any good write ups, but I have used these shims http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-10-25-STERLING-10-5-REAREND-CARRIER-SHIMS-RMS-SUPER-SHIM-KIT-NEW-/330855928015?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item4d088cd0cf
How much do you tow? Considering its a dually 4.10s are gonna be better for you. I love the 4.10s in my dually mileage isn't affected that significantly to justify me buying or even going through the hassle of a gear swap.....its something of you don't have or know how to work a backlash gauge you shouldn't attempt on your own
Yeah that's about right I'm running 2250 at 65 I think if I remember correct the 355s are still gonna be 2000 rpm at 65 I guess I don't wanna spend 500+ with install to drop 250 rpm
Ok I did some searching for you a guy with stock tires ran 2050rpms at 65 with 4.10s and put in 355s and ran 1750 at 65.....so you will drop 300 rpm on stock tires which I would think would be the same 300 rpm drop with any set up if your just changing gears
I researched this a while back when I was considering a gear change, and you will spend more on the proper tools to do the job right than you will on parts. Also it sounded very difficult to do, like somewhere between rebuilding an engine and rebuilding an automatic transmission. I decided it wasn't worth attempting it myself. I figured I could do it, but it just wasn't going to be cheap or very quick by time I figured out how to do it.
