CEL P2043

Got a check engine light today when I started my 11 F350 TD. According to a post on this forum, P2043 is:

P2043 - Reductant Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

Anyone know exactly what that is, and what type of nightmare I'm in for? Various posts throughout the web allude to a DEF tank issue. I'm assuming I'm under warranty with just 20K miles on the truck.

Thanks.

Thanks for the move. Thought thats where I was when I posted.

Just got back from the dealer. The problem is the temperature sensor in the DEF tank. Part will be in tomorrow, and they have to drop the tank to replace it.

Should be an easy fix.
When did you get your '11?
Looks like you'll hit 3 years before 36,000.

Have this DTC come up on my 2012 F250 the other day, took it to the stealership and they charged me $160 just to tell me that the code came up and it needed the heater/pump in the DEF tank replaced. Told me that part was only warrantied under the 3/36 warranty and since my truck had well over 36K on it that I would have to pay $700 to get it fixed. I asked them about calling Ford and the guy snickered and told me he wouldn't call them for something like this. I called Ford customer care and they escalated my complaint but told me it may be 3-4 business days before anyone would call me back. This is my work truck and I can't wait that long and currently I can't afford $700 out of pocket to pay them to fix it.

Truck is barely a year old and the dealer, at which my Dad and I have bought 5 super duty PowerStrokes at in the last 3 years, told me I was SOL.

And it really burns me up that they charged me $160 just to read the stinking code and they had it in the shop for less than 30 minutes!

*************************

Just got word that Ford is refusing to help me on this too.

Guess what kind of truck I won't EVER buy again!!!

Emissions warranty is 80K but only covers major components, cat converter, DPF, PCM failure mainly, DEF system is only covered to 36K.

Okay, well, that's not was told to me but it doesn't matter anyway. If you look a page or two above that list it shows the coverage miles and time, and it is 5/50 for above 8500 GVWR, and I have more than 50K on my truck.

I understand that technically that puts me out of warranty, but my truck is barely a year old so I think at the very least, Ford should meet me halfway on the repair. But no concession at all was offered, PERIOD. After my family buying 5 trucks in just a few years it would be just good will to at least offer that.

Reach out to me via PM, Ltngdrvr; I want to see what I can do to help. In your message, be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership info. I'll get to work on this.

I have the same issue. After the problem was diagnosed I was informed that the entire DEF reservoir had to be replaced because of the bad component inside and unfortunately it was on national backorder. I have since talked to the corporate Ford motor company office and they are placing my order on emergency status so that I can get the new DEF reservoir which they say is needed since the components inside cannot be replaced separately. Here's the kicker the emissions warranty does not cover it because I have over 50,000 miles on my truck ....is at a kick in the *** or what

I've had the P2038 code popping up for over 30K miles now and it's still going strong. All I do is clear the code with my scan tool and keep driving it. The code only pops up if the truck has been sitting for a few days, if I'm using it every day after clearing it, it doesn't pop back up.

And as to the repair, I was told that the pump unit is replaceable separately from the tank, the pump unit having the sensor built into it. The pump has a separate part number in the Ford parts catalog and costs about $300 or so depending on what dealer you buy from.

But, so long as clearing the code keeps me going then I'm not spending the $$$ to replace it.

I'm at 58,000 miles. If mine fails, it will be cheaper in the long run to just electronically eliminate the need for the failing part! $700 is almost halfway to a full delete setup and the cost of tuning and deleting is far less than the replacement of the DPF and the DEF system which will both fail in time.
