? how to tell 1965 250 from f100 ?

Ok 30 yrs ago i owned a 1965 Ford short box 2 wheel drive truck...Other than having 16" tires and rims I assume it was a f100...it was dark faded blue and someone chgd the motor to a 327 Chevy and the tranny from std to auto...
I wish i never sold this truck and i want to fint it or another like it...could this have been a f250 ???

Also what the unibody truck...I believe this truck had a frame under it ??

Welcome to FTE

1961/63 F100/250 2WD Uni's (not FoMoCo terminology) are not unit bodies ala Mustang/Falcon etc.

FoMoCo called them integral bodies, they're basically the same as other 1961/66 Stylesides, except the bed is welded to the cab.

F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle. F250's have 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle.

F100: 15" wheels were standard equipment, 16" & 17.5" wheels were optional.

F250: 16" wheels were standard equipment, 17" & 17.5" & 19.5" wheels were optional.

F100 an F250 have the same body. Only the chassis if different.
At a glance the F250 has 8 lugs per wheel. Generally sets higher.
Did ya ever change a tire on yer old one?
How many lugs nuts did it have per wheel?

Rust: The chances are slim that you'll find one of these trucks in NY, New England or other states where salt is used on the roads...without rust.

You want a rust free truck, look in the south, desert southwest and here in CA

Left: 1964/66 (1961/63 similar) cab & etc sheet metal parts.

Notice 16506 cab step (visible when doors are opened). Not used on 1965/66 F100/250 2WD, 1966 F100 4WD as these truck have a flat floor pan visible when doors are opened.

Right: Styleside Bed: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD, 1966 F100 4WD / Tool compartment optional, most trucks will not have it.

Short box would be a F100 with 5 lug wheels, Ford 9" rear axle or Dana rear axle with Limited Slip. Posi or Positraction are GM terms.

1965: R/L front fender emblems: FORD 100 or 250 across the top. 1966: FORD across the top, 100 or 250 encompassed below.

Within emblem is a plastic insert with: TWIN-I-BEAM or CAMPER SPECIAL or RANGER (bucket seats) or FOUR WHEEL DRIVE

Optional Western Jr. (aka West Coast) mirrors (pic at top).

Seller clueless, this is a STYLESIDE, not a Flareside.

Flaresides have outside rear fenders that bolt to bedsides, have a wood bed floor.

Hood ornament not original as FoMoCo never offered one, Custom Cab door handle guards were added later, as it has Custom Cab nameplates on the doors.

Chrome reversed wheels/baby moons, dual exhausts not original either.

Do not believe the mileage, as the odometer reads to 99,999.9 then returns to ZERO!

Pic at lower left: Flareside with 8' bed, 6 1/2' bed also available (F100 only).

FoMoCo did not offer a short Styleside (or Flareside) bed for an F250, only available with F100's.

16" wheels optional on F100's, standard equipment was Ford 9" without Limited Slip. If Limited Slip was ordered, either a Dana 44 or Dana 60.2 was installed. 60.2 is not a Dana 60, only installed in F250's.

3/1965: I bought a similar truck new: 1965 F100 Standard Cab with 8' Styleside bed, 15" wheels, 352 V8 w/Warner T-85N 3 speed Overdrive, Dana 44 w/Limited Slip, AM radio, deluxe heater, Western Jr. mirrors, tool compartment. Sold it 11/2009, it went "across the pond" to Sweden.

I agree that is not any factory color I have ever seen. Good catch on the door handle guards Bill. **** poor job of painting the letters on the gate as well. But is a damn nice truck and I would love to have it.

Buy it for me Bill. You have got to spend some money or you will end up with more than the Prez. And he would prolly figure out some way to tax ya.
