Steering Column

Just purchased about 5 weeks ago a1961 Ford F100 Flareside. Trucks body and engine are in very good to excellant condition. Problems: No parking brake system which the parts are being taken care of by Don Walker of this forum plus advice from him and Numbers Dummy. Brake pedal travel is 2 inches from the floor. No leaks, Brake Drums and shoes are fine and hard pedal at that depth, indication is that it may be master cylinder or its push rod is the wrong lenght. I am trying a kit from Speedway($49.50) that will give me and extra 6 to 7 inches of push rod. Not sure if that is the problem but everything else seems fine as mentioned above. I was told by the seller that the Steering column is not the oringinal but he doesn't know what type/year it is because he bought it that way. The issue is that the steering wheel doesn't sit far enough into the column to make the horn brushes touch and there is a very noticeable space of 1/2 inch between the horn and the three speed shift collar. There does not seem to be a way of adjusting this so any advice on these problems is appreciated, especially the steering column. thanks, ron

Need a picture of the column and wheel. Also, is there any slack in the column when you push straight in on the wheel?

Sorry but have to ask, before you try a longer push rod for your brakes, are your shoes adjusted up properly?

Left upper: 1961/63 ('64 same) F100/250 2WD steering column.

Right: 1961/63 ('64 same) F100/750 brake/clutch pedals and etc.

Left lower: 1961/63 ('64 same) F100/250 2WD T/S switch and etc (optional emergency flasher may not be present).

Notice that on 1961/62's, the T/S cancelling cam (13304) is separate, not part of the switch.

Could we see some pictures? Here is how.

But I got ta say becoming a supporter is the fastest and easiest way to post pics right from
your whatever pad/cell thing or home computer.
Few of us look in the users Gallery or album as you can see by your recent visitors.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Here's a tutorial Bob put together: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-pictures.html

Didn't someone else have that brake problem the other day? Seems they just put a stack of washers in it and brought the peddle back up perfectly.
