Anyone else have any words just wanting to scream out about the lack of high beam potential? On my 2013 the high beams are barely noticable when applied, seems kinda **** poor to me. Xlt, no Hid's.
A warning on the silverstars, the "ultras" burn out very very fast. I couldn't get more then 6 months out of them in my last truck. I went down to the sylvania "xtravision" and got 2 years out of them. They're not as bright, but i got sick of replacing them.

Did you by chance touch them with your hands? Getting oil on them shortens their life dramatically. I had some Silverstars on my Sequoia and they lasted years until I sold the SUV.
Don't spend the money on the Silverstars. The slightly whiter light doesn't help with the ability to see anything, especially out at a distance. I've burned through them before, and I'm not impressed. What I do recommend is the Philips X-treme Power (also know as X-treme Vision) bulbs. They retain a tad of that yellow-ish tint, not a white light, and they are damn bright for a halogen. I've had them in for about 20 months now and I run my lights A LOT and have yet to burn them out. Much longer life than the Silverstars. You can find them on Amazon for a great price.
I just put a pair of GE Nighthawk Platinums in my Ranger. I don't believe they're much better than the stock bulbs that are still good after 9 years, so I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Wish I could offer a solution about your poor highbeams, but mine don't seem that bad on my '12 XLT.
Short of putting increased-wattage bulbs in (which are illegal in many cases and can cause issues with wiring harnesses, housings, etc.) there are no magic bulbs you can install that will make a substantial improvement in headlight performance.
If you want serious light, look at off-road solutions from the likes of Rigid. They aren't cheap, but they are definitely more effective than stock lamps.
One thing I can't stand is being in an oncoming vehicle when someone has the HID lights, factory or not. I can't imagine needing more light than the stock XLT lights and lower driving lights.

Negative. I always used gloves to install for that exact reason. I did alot of night driving in my last truck, might have been why they burned out so quickly.

Havent used them in the truck yet but the extremes worked Great in my 1996 mustang. Sold it to my mom a couple years ago and they still haven't burned out yet (maybe 5years of use?).
