As some of you may know, I'm looking at buying a 64 f100 for a fall project and need some help. The hood ornament is gone. I'm talking about the one in the middle of the front of the hood just above the grille. I've found a couple online but I'm still looking for one. How do I re-attach it? FYI, let me know if you know of one for sale
64 would be a gear and lightning bolt only if you are looking for what would have come on it stock factory. V8 emblem introduced in 65. It is held on by nuts that thread onto 2 studs that come thru the hood on the back of the emblem itself. There should be a black plastic or if you order repop a black rubber type gasket under the emblem between the hood and emblem.
I have a few of them hanging around, there are only two nuts that hold them on, make sure that if you buy used that they still have the two studs otherwise it isn't going on.
Not to argue with N.D. But the Hood Emblem Pad is offered by Dennis Carpenter and AutoKrafters I'm not sure of other venders carry it. This is from Dennis Carpenter, Hood Emblem Pad 1961 - 66
C1TZ-16638 I know it's a made up number and the part doesn't exist.
But if you guys/gals can see this, it is a pad that goes on under the
emblem, sells for $6.00
Hey N.D. Hood Emblem Pad 1961 - 66
Pad, but of course. Who, in their right mind, would tighten down the hood emblem onto a newly painted hood. On old paint with marks already no problem but not new paint.
Not to argue with Dennis Carpenter, but, the '61 thru early '64 hood emblems do not have any red paint in the 5 star area. This emblem would technically be correct for later built '64's (6 & V8) and '65-'66 (6).
"assembly line workers." Man, you can say that again. For a very short time, I worked as a 'lead man' on the line for Ford, AND another job as a trouble shooter in research and development for FMC. Worked most of the time on the live, fixing ???? ups. In BOTH cases, better than 50% of line workers were well on their way to being completely ???? up on Monday mornings from hang overs and from lunch-on, on Fridays. On Fridays, after lunch, so many were drunk or high as kits on drugs. Pretty common with factory workers. AND this included management also. We used to see them at the local bar/stake house. Saw a good many of Management their on Fridays. They would leave the place '3 sheets to the wind'.
Never want to buy anything that was made on Monday or Friday.
I remember a new Lincoln being sold to a customer with NO oil pan, and of course, no oil. Have NO idea how they let that one get through. Amazing. Must have been one of those Fridays... I understand it came back a couple days later with a fried motor.
