Latched on to this old thread while looking for info on installing these patch panels. I recently purchased the pieces from N E Speedshop and while not cheap, the quality is good! I was wondering if anyone had done this repair. I'm not a bodyman. The guy I have doing it is not real confident on the best way to go about it. He's not sure he can just cut the bottom half of the end cap, but doesn't see an easy way to remove the whole end cap and then retack. Anyone have experience here?
I can see the welding of the patch panels as causing a bit of a problem if you wanna keep the body seams looking good. Not sure how one would go about replacing the spot welds in behind. But there are a lot of epoxies now available on the market specifically designed for attaching sheetmetal components of cars together we use both "Norton" and "SEM" brand at the shop where i work and have not had any come backs as a result over the past several years.
I would recommend doing some research on these products. I think a mixutre of these adhesives and some strategic spot (mig/tig) welding would easily make for a very good quality long lasting repair.
