I have a '95 F250 with the 302 and 5sp manual. whenever I would go up the highway, I could get to 73-ish and the power would cut off like hitting a rev limiter/speed governor and instantly kick back in. the speedometer would constantly bounce and wobble, unless at idle. when I would get up to highway speed and the speedo spazzing out, when the needle dipped down low like I was going 110, I'd have the power blip. so after months of pulling codes and getting 111, more troubleshooting, web search, and head scratching, I decided to unplug the speedometer and take it for a whirl.
well I just got back and am very very happy! not only did it NOT stumble, but this heavy truck can haul some serious ***!!! I was catching and passing traffic and as I held it to go with the flow (since I didn't have a working speedometer obviously) my RPMs were @2500 in 5th and not a blip, burp, or stumble! my needle started jumping after I changed dash lights 2 years ago after I bought it. I've never been happier with this truck than I am at this very moment so...
what would cause the FIX if the speedometer is unplugged?! speedometer? PSOM? both? neither? do I retro-fit a cable driven speedo??? thanks for y'all's help!
