MY 2001 F-350 SUPER DUTY HAS DEVELOPED A NASTY PROBLEM ON THE 1-2 SHIFT. IT WON'T, UNLESS I LET UP ON THE ACCELLERATOR AT ABOUT 2500 RPM THEN IT WILL SHIFT SOMETIMES SMOTHLY SOMETIMES A KICK IN THE PANTS. IT HAS 108,000 MILES TRANS SERVICED TWICE AT 50,000 MILE INTERVAL. IT'S A COMPANY TRUCK BUT IT'S STILL MY BABY.
On the 2001, the trans needs to be rebuilt. In that year Ford replaced the sprag type one way clutch with a mechanical diode one way clutch. They fail, and when they do it will only make the 1-2 shift when you back off.
The '99 wouldn't have that problem. It might have a broken accumulator spring, which can be changed with the trans in the truck.
Hi Mark,
I have a 01 Excur, 7.3 engine, 2wd, 60k miles and also had the same tranny problem, but my will not shift from 2-3. It feels like it is downshifting back to 1st. I read another post and their problem was a diode style clutch that was replaced with a sprag type. I've got 2 left hands and can only manage to change the oil and fuel filter on this suv. How much will this set me back if i take it to a dealer vs a tranny shop?
Thx! H
