See my point isnt the just the tire........I have exstensive damage to my vehicle.........which had recalled tires on it during the time I purchased it......THAT is my problem. I just had a normal flat and have about 45000 miles on my truck.
So What happened during your blowout to cause damage to the back of your truck? Im just saying It is not worth the risk to have a tire repaired on a heavy vehicle like a truck. Even if my tire were brand new and got a nail in it, I would most likely replace it. As the tire wears its going to become less and less safe. The part with a plug in it will not be as strong as the rest of the tire.
jrangel, I definitely see your point and feel badly that your truck got damaged, but the fact that the "repaired" tire is the one that blew, not one of the others will be a great defense for Ford, i.e. not a tire failure, but a repair failure...see the difference?
I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I don't think anyone can guess the outcome of this. It really sucks that the tire that blew was the one that was flat. Ford has a good defense team on this issue but also deals in hush money. On one side ford could say the tire was driven while going flat and damaged due to heat etc... On the other you could say the tire should have never been on the vechile since it was certified ford. Unless it was stated and signed no warranty implied. Keep us posted. Do you have full coverage. At least if you do you have a backup for 4,000 bucks. You only hope in this is a case by jury and since this will be small claims and no one injured I don't see that.
Well I finally have some resolution...........my insurance company is going to cover it. Ford will cover my 500.00 deductable and a set of 5new tires..........My insurance company will try to recover from Ford.....Oh and they also covered my car rental......Do you guys think I can squeeze lifetime balance and rotate on those tires???????????
I think the real issue at hand is the tires on the truck "should" not have been there in the first place... Ford can say it was a result of the tire being repaired... Rangel could easily reply that there is a definate history of these tires failing and spewing tread all over the place EVEN without ever going flat..... Good luck
I had the recalled tires as well. One separated and Continental General replaced all 5 tires before the recall. I paid for the labor and a mileage adjustment only ($200). This was before the recall was public. When the recall occurred, they refunded the $200. I had to get Continental tires for the replacements at the reduced cost. If I had known about the recall I would have gotten new Michelins and then got the reimbursement from Continental.
You should select the tires that you want and send Continental the receipt for reimbusement under the recall.
My understanding was that the only recalled size was 275/60/17. Did they put these on 4x4's or were there other sizes recalled?
