Ok so last Saturday I went a picked up a friend went to McDonald's drive through of course had to turn the truck off to order. When I went to go start it no go completely dead. I checked the battery cables all good an tight. Went checking fuses an the only one blown was fuse 21 under the hood. Changed that an had my dad out there with jumper cables. Being on the cables for fifteen minutes I'd get two or three clicks out of the starter then it'd go completely dead again. I'm not sure if its the batteries or maybe the alternator went bad. And opinions?
So next problem. I had to have it towed to the house no big deal less an a mile. But the idiot who towed it didn't take the chain all the way off an on the bed. So when I put it in neutral to roll it off it snagged on my driver side tie rod an bent the hell out of it so now my driver tire is straight an the passenger is crooked. Problem I'm having is finding the right tie rods. I go to the store an they keep bringing out tie rods an drag links that are too small. An saying that's the only listing they have for it. Does anyone know the right part numbers for all the tie rods an drag link I just wanna replace everything up there? And now it's kinda hard to do since I'm out in CA for the rest of this week to help my brother move to Texas so I can't physically be there to see them. I just need to order the right parts so when I get back I can throw them on an then worry about why it won't start. An hopefully have a truck to drive to work next Monday.
You stated the battery cables are tight, but are they clean? They need to be shiney clean, both ends of both the pos. and neg. cables. I sounds to me like they aren't making good contact. If cleaning the cables doesn't help, I'd have the starter checked out.
On the tie rods, Did someone swap in a Dana 60 solid front axle? The F250s came from the factory with the TTB front axle, and the D60 takes all together different tie rods.
Sorry no its the d50. Compleately stock. An I checked the connections they're all shiney an clean. I wouldn't think it'd be the starter seeing as when I try to start it kicks an then the batteries go dead.
Tell them you have a 1996 F250, then slap them upside the head for being so flippin stupid. They are selling you parts for the spaceship, light duty F250.
Even telling them that. I always tell em it's a 96. I hate the parts store I usually go in there with part numbers ready just so they don't screw it up.
Well thanks to this wonderful site I found the part numbers that I need for the tie rod stuff. Just needed to look farther down the part number list to find it for the 250's. so only thing left is to get back home Saturday an figure out the starting problem. I'm gonna load test em an get the alternator tested too. Just wish this hadn't happened the day I left. So I could actually work on the beast. I think she got mad at me cause I went to go look at a 06 f-350 to replace her.
Found out that the no starting was nothing but loose connection that i didn't even know about. Had a buddy go to the parts store for me and ordered everything for up front steering(he gets a discount) put it on last night eyeballed the alignment till monday when i actually get it aligned.
Still thinking about trading it in for that 06 f-350
