anyone ever tint their windows in a 87-96 pickup? i have the sliding rear window on mine. i looked in the hanes manual on how to remove it and the drivers and passanger windows, but it didnt help me. any ideas?
hows it going? I see you swaped out your old 4 speed for a 5. Do you like it better? I also found your custom intake scoop rather interresting. However, I could never use such a setup as I would surely get gallons upon gallons of water up it within a few minutes of mudding.
For the window tint, I have tint on mine....however I did not own the truck when it was installed. I am having darker stuff put on later this summer when I find the time, but I am going with a professional job just so there isn't any scew ups. If its anything like applying stickers, its not the job for me!!
its easy, i did my rear window in about 3 hrs and it looks pretty darn good for an amature. im gunna re do it soon and do my sides also. no need to remove the windows, all u need to do is cut the pieces a little larger and then get a putty knife or thing spatcula and slide the excess under the rubber striping. make sure to get most of the bubbles out and let it sit in the sun for a few days to let it dry. good luck
I have the side windows and the rear window tinted on my truck. Click on my users gallery to see pics. It took about 1.5 hours to do them all. I had a friend of one of my good buddies help me (he does it profesionally) and he showed me some good tricks 1. use lots of soapy water (this is the key to the whole thing) 2. take your time when cutting the tint, cut it about 1/2 inch larger all the way around than the glass. 3. don't roll down the windows for atleast days after you apply the tint.
soapy water could streak between the glass and tint.. ..i used to do this and signs w/ vinyl.. ..there's a solution called raptack .. see if there's a sign maker in the area that could part w/ some. it'll dry clear and gives plenty of time. remember to start from the middle and work out w/ a rubber squeege.. a little raptac on the working side of the tint will let your squeege glide easier..
thanks for all the input gentlemen. another thing, some of you said that i dont need to take out the windows. the side windows on my truck are kinda scratched up so i was thinking of getting some less-scratched ones from a junkyard and tinting those. but we'll see... my question is about the back window. did you have to take the whole thing out or did you just leave it in? and for the side windows, how did you get the tint in the sides of the windows? any help is good. thanks, john
Most tint guys don't like it, but I always pull my glass before it's tinted. I like knowing that the edges of the tint (on non-moving glass) is behind the rubber, and it's easier to get ALL the deposits off the glass that way. It's a lot more work, but I think it's worth it.
