thoughts .I found a 05 grand marquis. I want the front subframe for my 77 ford f100. so I was thinking of making a derby car out of the rest. I really am thinking that a 300 inline 6 would be hard to kill like impossible. so what do you all think.
ever seen a inline 6 derby car? I don't see why it wouldn't work well the inline configuration is naturaly balanced so it should take the rpms. just gear the rear axle to the moon and rip it . be like a little tractor.
I doubt it would pass tech inspection. They don't usually like it when the frame is all grafted together. Plus, most places have a rule that after the race any competitor can buy your car for something low, usually $500.
I know a few guys who have stuffed whole chevy front ends under them. the vic stuf with rack and pinion is no good for derby. couple good hits and the rack explodes. just a thought I had. went to local hillbilly fest (county fair) and ever since I was a kid I thought It would be fun to do the derby. realistically I would end up with a sbc powered unit but inliner would be neat.
Don't use a 4.9. They're getting kind of hard to come by. Use a production-run-of-the-mill v8. Not to mention, If a competitor does buy your car, Would you want to be taken out by your own engine?
