NP205 & NP435 rebuild advise

Awesome! I've had my t-case out & ready to do this for a few months but since the project is now on hold while I work on the house i haven't worried about it. Seeing this has me a bit inspired though - so thanks.
What did you use to clean the t-case before you painted it?
Oh and got any links to the instruction type info you found on the 205 rebuild?
thanks.

Seriously, here's a link to some pretty good instructions I followed on the 205
NP205 Rebuild Guide
As far as the clean up I used some degreaser I picked up at O'Rilley's it's called Super Clean - comes in a purple container. I used full strength and recommend using gloves because it will dry up your hands! Right before painting, I wiped the surface rust down with mineral spirits.

Were you able to pull the trans/transfer case out as a unit, or did you separate them under the truck? I am at a sticking point with my 1978 F250. I have all of the bolts out of the crossmember and can slide it forward a bit, but cannot remove it and can't see how to get both the NP435 and NP205 out as one unit. My next attempt was going to be:
I have Rich and redroad guiding me along and they've been a HUGE help, but seeing that you just did this last year on a 78 F250, I wanted to ask you. I noticed in the first picture that it looked like you had the passenger fender off. Did you remove your front clip and pull the engine/trans/transfer case from the front?

- push crossmember forward towards engine and remove the transfer case.
- remove the adapter
- slide crossmember back towards rear and lower transmission
