I have a 1994 F-150 4.9L 2W-drive. It is starting to hard slaming into second every once and a wile. It has 140,000 mi. and has had the oil changed once at 90,000 mi. What may the problem?
dude,,, bad news for U..... THat tranny is a piece. Your lucky that E4OD made to 140,000mi. Your reverse will go out next, so make sure you park where you can pull out forwards, if you know what i mean.
The older ones (late 80's) were not the best, but now with all the upgrades and redesigned parts, they are more than sturdy enough.
I install some of the parts into my C6 trans (like I put in the aluminum 4 pinion planetary is good for 500 HP and if needed, the 6 pinion planetary is good for 800 HP or so easy)
The problem you have is that the center support is worn out on the inner sealing surface and that gives a hard one/two shift, and it has nothing what so ever to do with reverse.
It will need to be rebuilt and the exchanged trans will have the updated parts.
It will cost you a bundle like all the other computer controlled automatic over drives, and a used one from a wrecking yard is still a bit pricy for a gamble also.
The E4OD was the first trans I learned how to rebuild when I worked for a ford dealer.
