I am looking for a Scangauge to use on my upcoming Excursion. There are several different models and I would appreciate input about which offers the better options. Explanations would also be appreciated.
Since you specifically inquired about Scangauge products, I'm pretty sure that's why VQT recommended the ScanGauge II by Linear Logic. As far as to why that is preferred(over the SGE), the main reason is the ability to program the X Gauges. The X Gauge feature lets you input codes(as they are developed/discovered) to the unit for specific performance/operating information. This allows the user access to a greater amount of information than is available from typical digital gauges with predetermined/generic data sets.
Have you decided which engine you desire in the Excursion you intend to purchase?
I had the ScanGauge on my Expedition and liked it...tried the UltraGauge on my Excursion and I'm liking it even more. It has the ability to display 6 or more values at a time (I think the max is 8 at a time) in something like 6 different pages - all programmable...so 48 different gauges. Downside is it doesn't have the different color option like the ScanGauge.
I'll go a little off-topic here for another solution. I saw a guy that ran the $5 Torque App on his Android device and a $25 bluetooth ODB adapter he got on eBay. The info he was pulling off his 6.0 ECM was insane. I have the SCT Livewire TS for my tuner and monitor, and he was pulling info I didn't even have the options for. The data logging alone blew my mind when he could pull up a day and temperature for where he was on a map, and how the truck performed. Very impressed.
I have a SGII, and Torque Pro. As cool as torque is, the SGII is much more convenient, as it's always mounted and doing it's thing. Docking a phone all the time can be a bit of a PITA. I've considered mounting a spare phone I have for a semi permanent Torque display/media player, but that could lead to a break-in, and I don't want to invite that.
Why is it that pretty much no one has an UltraGauge? I think the SG2 looks like its from the 90s. UG looks cleaner and more crisp? Does the UG not do some things the SG2 does?
I've got one...prefer it over the ScanGauge. I do wish they'd update the design to allow for different color display settings, but even without that - the product is (in my opinion) superior to the ScanGauge.
I know some will chime in that the ScanGauge lets you add gauges, but for a gasser at least, the UltraGauge comes with all you need.

I already have actual EGT, TRans temp, and Boost gauges. I was really just looking for a water and Oil temp so I don't idle the truck all the time, but I just think the SG2 is fugly. Does the UG have a fuel pressure gauge on it?
In addition to the basics, SGII will read three parameters from the FICM, cylinder misfire counts, cam/crank sync, EGR valve duty cycle, turbo solenoid duty cycle, IPR % and/or voltage, ICP % and or volts, and at least another handful of important things that others in the category won't read, and I can't remember now.
For a 6.0l, the SGII is one of the most comprehensive OBDII readers you'll find. New codes are still being created to read even more available data from the PCM. A lot of us 6.0l owners have written to Linear Logic and requested they develop code for certain PID's, and they've come through. I've had one on my 6.0l since 2005, and would purchase another if it failed. Except for Ford IDS, or AutoEnginuity(both laptop based), nothing else will give you as much data from your 6.0l. Torque Pro is pretty darn close.
