Wow. 7220 appears to be part of the cast case
Do you think it could be on so tight that I need a cheater bar on a pipe wrench?!
It's not part of the cast case since it has a part number. I don't know how it comes off, but compressing the coil spring has something to do with it.
No spring chicken, I was 75 last Monday, gal I'm dating will be 75 in January and we've know each other for 70 years! We met in kindergarten when we were 5.

If you have a Clark trans like the one in ND's post you don't need to take the shifter out of the housing. Just remove the transmission cover from the floor then remove the 4 bolts from the shifter housing and take the shifter and housing out together.

The cover/tunnel is welded to the floor. My floor is bad, but I'm hoping not to have to cut into it right now.

I got out a shop manual and that is the way Ford says to do it. A Sawzall may be in your future. Without digging thru the manuals, just looking at the parts page that ND posted I'm guessing that the shifter comes out the bottom of the housing.

I believe you are correct as every Clark I have ever dealt with 4 bolts to remove the whole shift tower. To get the cane out of the housing most just need the spring popped out of the retainer, the exception being the towers having a second shift 'finger'. Then the cane drops out from the bottom side.
