Oil Burning

This is my first post on the forum but I've been exploring the threads for a while. Anyway I recently bought a '97 F350 and I love the thing its got a 351w, E4OD and a Bw 4407 it runs and drives great but over the last 1000 miles I've had to add two quarts of oil (not at once). That seems like a lot to me. When I bought the truck there was very little oil in the pan but it has been changed quite a few times since. I think the disappearance of the oil could be from bad piston rings, but I've never see any blue smoke coming from the tail pipe. I also know that the engine has developed a small rear main seal leak (two to three drops a day) but I don't think that could account for two whole quarts. Other than that I don't know how I'm loosing the oil. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance, Alex

What type & weight oil are you running? When I say type I mean dino or synthetic?

i have a chevy with a 454 that did worse than that and never smoked, engine is so big. check your plugs. compression test. could be valve guides and seals. might get away with a valve job and re-ring.

I'll tell you something from my experience. If it has not been running Castrol oil most of its life that could be your oil burning. I had the happen to me on a Chevy CK20 4x4 that I bought new.
Everybody raved about Castrol oil so I switched & that truck went to burning oil way worse than ever. It had about 110,000 miles when I switched it over. I went back to Valvoline & it stopped.
Also 5-30 is too little in my opinion. I know this will start a bunch of disagreements, But after millions of miles & so many vehicles I can't count them I never lost an engine because of type or using 10-40 YET. I use 10-40 in everything I own & always have, new or old.
