AIMS Machine. I was referred by an auto shop owner and good friend who has been in the business for a long time. I was told they are the only game in town. They are a Ford shop, mainly, so I'm told. They did good work as far as I can tell except for the oversight on the crank.

Having it checked for straightness might be safe to relieve yourself of any doubts. I wouldn't think it would bend in shipping, I had one shipped the same way, no problem. Cast iron doesn't bend as easily as it breaks. It has to sit a long time on it's side for all the molecules to rearrange themselves..

That was NOT an "oversight". Who did you buy the replacement crank from ?

Got the crank from Survival Motorsports. Recommended by this Forum group. I will be checking clearances on the mains and rods very closely, in several places. I'm debating on whether to call and see what they say.

I cannot imagine Barry's company packing a crank like that. He's got quite a good reputation on the Big block Ford FE forum on Network54. Never done business with him myself though.

I was surprised too. I did receive excellent customer service from Barry. He was very helpful and understood exactly what i needed. I'll probably give them a call. He may not know about it.

I contacted Barry just now. They do ship quite a few crankshafts. He says this happens every once in a while. The shipper is to blame. In this case, UPS. He says it should be fine as long as I check the clearances. And, offered to send another crank if its messed up or damaged.

Aims was one of the best here in town but they have been hit and miss. I used them for head work and blocks but haven't done cranks there. Hope your new crank checks out.

I heard about a place called Hughes (sp)in South Reno that supposed to be pretty good, too. Have you used them at all?

Haven't tried them yet, I work done that way so I will have to check them out. A few shops here don't believe our engines exist.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback on here. Please forgive me for venting on here about my crankshaft that I received the other day. I feel bad for venting on here and "bath mouthing" a good business. Appears these guys at Survival Motorsports sent me an excellent crankshaft that is in excellent condition. I am pleased with it. Still disappointed about the abuse it got in shipping. But, it does not appear to be damaged or bent. I put the crankshaft in today. I turns freely and doesn't bind anywhere. I still have to check clearances and put the main caps and rods on, etc. But, so far so good.

I would assume the crank was ground? You got bearing to match?

In my opinion, you didn't bad mouth, unless you misrepresented as to how the crank arrived. If it arrived packed as you say it was, it was packed poorly to start with. And if that did happen then Barry is directly responsible for that, it's his business afterall. Poor handling in shipment (that sounds like a cop out to me, but that's just my opinion) would not result in the box being large enough to allow the crank to roll around freely inside it. And if Barry claimed it got that way in transit, this just doesn't add up. I've shipped several cranks, they were all packed surrounded by wood, duct taped securely to the crank, then put into a tight fitting box with no chance that it could end up on the other end loose enough to roll around. The box and wood would have to be destroyed before the crank got damaged. Be that as it may an 390 crank is a tough piece, they're nearly impossible to break or destroy.
