Hello,
I am new to the forun and new to big block Fords. I have a 95 F250. The 460 in it tossed a rod out the bottom of the pan. I need to understand the differences between a 460 and a 7.5. I know that the fuel injection heads are different from a carb head and that you cannot bolt the FI manifold on to the carb head. What about the short block? Can I use my rebuilt 460 short block with my 95 FI heads and FI intake and etc?
Also I just bought a 96 7.5 complete core. Is it the same as my 95 engine? Should I just sell the 460 I have that has been rebuilt really well and rebuild the 96 7.5 and put it in the truck?
I do not want to rebuild the 95 motor as it is snake bit. Ford crate engine. Blew a head gasket and then 1K miles later wiped out the cam and then 1K miles later chuked a rod throught the pan. Thanks
460 cubic inches displacement is the same as 7.5 liters of displacement
Same scenario as a 302 in a Mustang is a 5.0
If they were both fuel injected engines they "should" be compatible. I would assume you will be keeping the engine with the thrown rod (until swapped) in case you need any sensors or wiring from it, correct?
I think I'll sell the newly rebuilt carb motor and rebuild the 96 FI motor. The way I see this is to use the FI system off the 95. It looks brand new just like the blown motor. It ran like a top except for blowing a head gasket and then wiping out the cam and then chucking a rod out the bottom of the pan. I'll keep the blown engine long enough to ge the 96 running well and off the the junk it will go! If you know anyone that wants a well built carb 460 at a bargan price let me know! Thanks
