Well, the Holley on my truck is not the 4180 and is much bigger so I bought a brand new Edelbrock 600 this morning and is much more practical for my use.
that is not a motorcraft carb, it is a holley for ford.
motorcraft carb either has no name at all on it or motorcraft.
All 4180's are made by Holley for Motorcraft. There are different Holley stampings on the fuel bowls and I'm sure some without Holley on them. They're ALL made by Holley. There is no such thing as a Motorcraft 4180 that's not made by Holley.
That carb is the original, installed by Ford on the assembly line in 1987 Motorcraft/Holley 4180 carb from my 87 F250 351HO.
Mustangs got the 4180 from 83-85, trucks from 83-87 on the 351 and from 79-87 on the 460. It may have shown up on the 351 powered big cars too, I'm not sure.
but it is still a holley for motorcraft carb.
a motorcraft 4 bbl carb looks sorta a holley, but does not have holley name on it. my 7 litre had a motorcraft carb on it, not a holley for motorcraft
Well the 7 Litre carb isn't a 4180. From what I know of the 7 Litre's the carb is based off the Autolite 4100. I didn't say all 4bbl carbs were Holley's, I said all 4180 carbs are Holley's.
Any Ford truck with a factory 4bbl from 79-87 has a Holley/Motorcraft 4180 carb. All the one's I've seen say Holley on them, but I think I may have seen one with a blank fuel bowl - not sure. I've seen two different Holley stamps, one recessed, the other raised. There are no other factory 4bbl carbs on these trucks than the 4180.
The 4180 is based off the 600cfm 1850 but with annual boosters in the primaries it's rated at 585cfm. It's been modified to be tamper resistant for emissions reasons but in the right hands it can be tuned to be a decent performer. The problem now with them is after 30 years many of them are simply worn out and need a major overhaul to get them functional again. Also, I'm not counting the ones that have been butchered.
