Firestone Ride Rite System

How many of you are ruuning this?

I'm really considering putting this on between the weight of the Vegi tank (X tank) and getting ready to get a 5th wheel I want the back end to be more stable/comfortable.

I have my own air tank and pump so I only need the controller portion of the kit. Anyone know if this can be purchased like that?

Where are we getting our best prices from?

I run the system on my truck. Very nice quality and pretty easy install. I bought mine for a good price through RV Parts, RV Accessories RV Supplies Priced Low

a year ago the best price I found was Suspension Connection, they hold up our 4500lb camper real well.I dont recommend them for rough off road use we did destroy three sets on our over loaded service trucks in rough field use.as far as better ride I felt they did nothing for stability, the Hellwig 1 1/2 sway bar on front axle & stable loads by Torklift on rear overload springs ,is what made things safe.I think the RS 9000 shocks may have helped some but also took some of that cushy ride while unloaded.still on the fence on upgrading rear OEM sway bar.

Mike, I have been runnning the FIrestone airbags for a little over a year. I have also tried the Roadmaster Active Suspension. The main reason I went with the airbags was for the infinite adjustability with the in-cab controls.

Getting to where I am took a bit of trial and error. When I had the RAS, I was really pleased with the improved ride both loaded and unloaded. Ultimately, I had to return them because with the little bit of lift I have on my truck, it threw the front end of the 5th wheel up to the point that the front tires of the trailer were locking up when I was braking, indicating an unbalanced load between the front and rear axle of the 5er. At the time, my options were more limited so I just went back to stock suspension.

Fast forward about 2 years, and the wife has finally had enough of the jarring ride when pulling the 5er, so I decided to go all out and raise the 5th wheel about 3 inches by having a subframe welded between the frame and the spring-hangers. Then, instead of going back with the RAS, which is a "set it and forget it" system, I decided to go with the airbags with in-cab controller. I found an open-box deal on ebay.

Comparing the two systems, I honestly think the RAS gave a better ride both loaded and unloaded, but the adjustability of the airbags won out. My setup is still not perfect. The combination of the airbags and the adjustable Rancho 9000's take out 75% of the jarring from the 5th wheel. One day I'll upgrade the pinbox on the 5er to something like the Trailair Triglide and hopefully then all of the bounciness will be gone.

Good luck with your decision, let me know if I can answer any questions.

I too have the Firestone bags without the on-board pump (couldn't afford it). I've had them for about 5 years and love em. My set up is a travel trailer and usually a Polaris quad in the bed. I put 55 psi in the bags and it levels everything out. I don't use an equalizer setup, just dual anti-sway bars and I love the way it rides. I did borrow a friends antisway for a trip out to Phoenix just to compair and didn't notice one single bit of difference. My bags are the 'outside the frame' type.

Is there any reason to buy the individual side controller?

The only reason I could see would be like a drop in camper that had a water tank or something that would weigh a side of the truck down more then the other. This way you could level out the truck. I would think that it would be dangerous to drive down the road that way especially on turns. That is the only reason I can see. The single control works fine for me.

Same thing when I ordered. Mine was on back order when I ordered so it took a couple weeks to get. But the saved money was worth it.

Yes. If you're concerned about body roll and don't have a rear swaybar, the individuals sides will help eliminate that.

I run the basic system - no in cab control. I keep cheap harbor freight 12 volt compressor in the back of my Ex and adjust according to what I'm pulling. I pull the same two loads everytime and know what PSI to use for each.

I bought mine at 4wd.com or 4wheel parts (same parent co). Ask for the jeep forum discount ans they will give you 10% off.
