So I finally got tired of my shake and decided to do my balancer. So everything went smooth with getting it off but when going to put my new one on (dorman oe replacement) it just slides all the way on with minimal effort. Even if the key is messed up, should you still be able to slide it all the way on with just your hands? The ones I've done in the past on Chev's have always been a really tight fit. Another question is are you able to get a stuck key out of the crank without dropping the pan and taking the timing cover off? My old key doesn't fit tight and the balancer has a bit of play when it's on the shaft so I figured I might as well use the new one I got, I just can't for the life of me get the old one off.
I have never had a harmonic balancer slide on by hand on any engine I have worked on. It is designed to be a press on fit. I would return that door stop they sold you.
