fuel filter for 2000 ranger
Hello jbabbler:
must share with you that after trying several tools to remove my fuel filter, the only one that worked was the one made by Performance Tool, part number W83131 at pepboys about 10 bucks, it is for 3/8 line and made of precision diecast yellow anodized aluminum, pincer type, rubber spring loaded to stay close after placing around fuel line. It was a snap to use. I guess for fuel injected vehicles.
The new serpentine Dealer purchased belt would not fit even when the tensioner was maxed out.
I had to loosen the alternator bolts up front and remove the one at back to make it work. Big test today.
Don't have the key on my hands yet or the EGR DPFE sensor again.

Fuel Filter Problems
After reading all of the threads on how much of a pain it is to get the connections off of the fuel filter I decided to experience the pain for myself. This is what I don't understand, I got the plastic QD tools and they didn't work at all. I struggled for an hour doing everything I could for one fuel line! The other 2 had the white clamp and they were cake. I then realized that you DO NOT need any tool for this job on my 2000 Ranger (4 banger)! My connection had a green plastic ring that went around the connector, but only about 3/8 inch was visible. I decided to press in the green part of the plastic...and...WAALAA! The connector came right off with ease! Man, was I pissed but happy at the same time. Do I have something different on my truck, because the tool was not needed?
