Wife and I went to Utah over the weekend and while coming back down Highway 191 into Vernal, the alternator conked out. This was during a heavy thunder storm and I had the lights, wipers and A/C going. I don't know if it was due to die (134k miles) or because it had gotten water in it.
I don't know how low the voltage can go and keep the injectors firing on a 7.3, but it was still running at 10.3V.
The people at O'Rielly's were decent enough to loan me a 1/2 ratchet so I could swap it out in the parking lot, that helped overcome the $190 sticker shock.
135k, you did pretty good. Keep a check on those batteries. They'll be likely to go next if not relatively new. Ford's don't like to go below 10v, you got pretty close.

Good for you. Now hang on to that receipt and warranty, 'cause those O'Rielly's won't go more than a couple of years.
When the OReilly alternator goes out you should put on a DC Power alternator. Consider upgrading to a higher output. I upgraded to a 185 and the truck runs better all around. I monitor my voltage with an EDGE and it produces 13.8-14.0 with AC, lots of electronics running such as the video system, a cell phone or Ipad charging, etc.

LOL, that would cause some real sticker shock, lol
My DC cost 700 bucks, but I needed a big time alternator, so its worth it.
I wouldn't tell someone with a stock Excursion to buy one though.
I came back to Vegas from Utah this past weekend and it was pouring. Did you have something to monitor voltage? How fast did it go down?
I have a little digital multi-meter with a cigarette plug in on it. When I first noticed the volts dropping and plugged it in, it was at 11.6. It went about an hour with the parking lights and wipers on before it bottomed out at 10.3.
