I'm back....had to drop the tank again. Put a continuity test on it and we had an open circuit. Pulled the pump assembly, and began checking each part. All good. As I went to plug everything together again, I noticed the pump harness could plug in 180 degree backwards, seems to fit both ways. Looked more closely and found that the plug WAS backwards...turned it around and re installed everything. BINGO. Pump charged right up and the truck fired up. Now it is throwing a P0401 code, and I already replaced the DPFE, but not the hoses. Time to look at the EGR and maybe clean that up. At least its running and I can work on the rough running. Time to replace the plugs as well.

That's strange, I wonder why Ford would make such a critical error in the design of the connector.

Good luck with the Airtex pump. I never had any luck with those or Bosch.

thanks. I am not a mechanic, but I sure feel like one after dropping the fuel tank twice. Vehicle is running, but misses a touch. Put the reader on it and it showed a P0401. So, to be safe with 160,000 miles on this truck, I changed out the EGR valve. Still running a little rough. Next step is to try and change the plugs. Anything else to check? Put in a new air cleaner too. Gut feeling tells me the plugs or plug wires.

The pump is, but the electrical connector on the vehicle is the OEM one. I'd sure would've liked to see a photo of the ends of the 2 connectors for future reference.

you'll slap me on this one......original! I am betting this is the culprit. Got the plugs, now I am in for quite a job as these are buried. Cant figure out how to get the coils off, or is there a cap that unsnaps? Wish i would have taken a photo of the plug too. It slid in both ways (180 backwards) but did not click into place. Getting it right, it did click. My fault for not paying attention. On the rough engine...it was fine until it warmed up and then started missing when I accelerated and got to speed at 55 mph. Maybe wires as well?

Naw, same thing happened to me. I was having starting issues around 150K miles and I dismissed the plugs figuring the previous owner had replaced them at 100K like they were supposed to. Nope, guessed wrong on that one. I changed the plugs anyways and found the originals still in there with a gap almost twice what they should've been. After the plug change it starts and runs great.

Here's the thread I started over it: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ing-issue.html
