My first truck was also my first car... 1972 Ford Ranchero. 400 V8, floor-mounted automatic transmission, Cragar S/S mags. Ran like a bat outta Hades.
The first "real" truck I drove was my dad's 1973 F100 4x4. 360, 4 speed, single-speed transfer case. Succumbed to a serious case of rust. After it's demise, I bought a 1977 F250 4x4 Highboy. 351, 4 speed, 12 x 16.5 Goodyear Wranglers, and a KILLER stereo. It had 43, 000 miles when I bought it in my junior year of HS, and when I sold it ten years later, it was closing in on 300,000, was on its second engine (a 400 V8 this time), its second bed (a homemade flatbed with a bale stabber), and had two different colored doors and a homemade front push bumper/brushguard combination. I considered keeping it and replacing the engine a third time, but while it was sitting in my barn lot, a high school kid came by and asked if I would sell it to him. So that kind of brought it "full circle". That was 1993.
Last I knew (2001) it was still being used on the kid's farm, but I don't think I would call it roadworthy.
Hey chissler, my first Ford was a '66 Mustang also. Man I loved that car, bent frame, rusted floorboards and all. Looked great on the outside, and ran great after all the work I did on the engine, tranny, and new 9" rear. I wish I had mine back too.
1958 Ford RanchWagon, Two Door, 352 Interceptor, Auto, Power Steering & Brakes. Purchased in 1970 when I was 15.
I restored it over the year that I waited to get my license.
That Hot Honey was the best Surf Cruiser in Northern Cal. It would be worth a mint now!

Hmmmmm, first car? Lets see June 29th,1972 I purchased from a single lady in her mid 30's at the time a 1964.5 Mustang hdtp. My father sold it to her new in '64. It was 7 years old at the time with just under 18,000 miles. Never been in snow. Never been over 55mph. And no one ever sat in the back seat. Ya it's been over 55 mph a couple of times since. And more than just sitting in the backseat has happened. But it still only looks at the snow and salt on the roads from the garage. Come to think of it that's the Mustang in the garage and it will be 31 years ago in a few days.
1965 F100 Custom, 352 2v. When I moved, often in those days, I pulled my '73 Mustang 351c, doubling as a trailer to help haul my 'stuff'. What a pair, both in good shape then, want 'em back now.
sigh
63 Galaxie 500 4 door 289 ' I installed furry interior, added fuzzy dice, painted it red oxide, and pinstriped flames on it with soapstone. This was 1985 . Then I got a 66 Stang in 86, wish I still had the both of em!
Sorry bout the double post---my browser is acting weird today and acting like things arent posting. Guess I best be careful so as not to look like a web hog or something. The first post hadn't shown up and I realized I'd put the wrong engine size down...sheesh...duh! Then there they both are! Correct engine is the 289.
