Well I have my new 8.5x20 trailer on order that has electric brakes and I'm looking to install a brake controller. I don't like how cheesy all the aftermarket ones look and love fords factory controller and upfitter switches. Has anyone swapped these in the excursions and had it working? I've looked on the net for this mod and came up with nothing.
Fords controller wont work with your 02, I don't believe they even started installing them until 05. Don't think they work on the excursion pcm anyway. I use a prodigy p3 and love it. If you buy the premade harness for fords from tekonsha, its practically plug n play.
Yea but its a big box that I have to find a spot for which I have no more spots to mount. The place that most people mount it to is occupied by a dual plug 120v outlet.
Does someone make a box that isnt so big and bulky and ugly. If not then just won't have working electric brakes on this trailer either. Been towing my 7.5x16 enclosed trailer loaded down weight 7000 lbs for 2 years now without brakes.
You think this brake controller, the Tekonsha P3, is ugly and big?
Here's the P3 installed in my F250. I don't think it looks ugly, is too big, or is bulky.

Well if I did the f650 dash mod if wouldn't look so bad at all. But with my current setup I have no where to put it. My 120v outlet is in place of where most people mount the controller. Can't put it on the drivers side at all cause it would hit my knees. I'm 6'5" and my knees almost touch the dashboard.
