Bronco running intermitently

ok I have a 89 striate 6 4.9L it is a great truck that off roads like a champ when it runs.
the problem : in hot weather over 98 degrees after driving for about 40 minuets it starts to chug and die it will not start again tell engine is cool.

My solution: after reading every thing I could find on this site I deducted that it was the TFI I have replaced it twice and finally Bought a relocate kit with a heat sink from McCulley motors for $65 the TFI is staying cold but I am having the same problem just with more chugging

could this be a combination of a bad low flow fuel pump getting to hot and my TFI getting hot and I only fixed one of the problems

the only codes it is throwing are 51 temp too high (I recently flushed the system and replaced coolant sensors ) and code 67 neutral switch

I am really thinking of selling it but I would just love it if I could fix the problem it only has 115000 original miles on it and I am the second owner. please help!!

Check the fuel pressure the next time it happens.
My 1990 5.0L had a poor running condition that appeared after the engine was warmed up but actually it was the fuel pump that had a valve in the intank fuel pump (only one pump) that was displacing and causing a poor flow condition. The solution was to replace the fuel pump.

Could be the stator in the distributor. Press the gear off and buy Motorcraft stator.

Last, but possible, PCM...send it to ECMtogo.com for testing.

So the stator is the little electronic halve moon that the TFI plugs in to? how likely is it that it will go bad? also do I have to remove the distributer to remove this? dose the timing need to be recalibrated after replacement?

I played reman distributor roulette four times. One of them did not even have the connection that turns the oil pump.

I marked everything and I mean EVERYTHING with a sharpie, even the gear before it was pressed off and timing was pretty darn close.

I am not sure what you mean by "even the gear before it was pressed off"
what are you talking about when you say pressed off the gear?

To replace the stator the distributor has to be removed. Then the rolled pin punched out of the gear. I took it to a press to get the gear pressed off the shaft because I did not want to damage the end of the shaft that connects to the oil pump. Mark gear to shaft, distributor to block, rotor to cap, the thing that has the notches to shaft, EVERYTHING.

I need to update my location I am now in Utah

I think if I have to remove the distributor then I will just replace the whole dizzy with a new one . but first I am going to get it to start having the problem again and check my fuel flow before I just start replacing parts. I will also check for spark on the dizzy when it will die on the road.

I carry a code reader. If it dies I check the CM (continuous memory) which displays right after KOEO. Then I know if it is spark. If no codes I assume this darn ol' ethanol.
