On Throttle Ping/Click From Engine

I have searched on here and can't find a topic for this. There is an on throttle ping or sizzling type sound coming from the drivers side engine compartment. I'm beginning to wonder if it is air in the system or if I have an injector going out? Did the Strictly Diesel hutch/harpoon mod a few months ago, but I'm pretty sure the sound was there before I did it, just not as bad. Seems to be getting worse over time. Fuel pressure at idle seems to be different at times. One day it can idle at 57-58 PSI and on other day it can idle at 60 PSI. AT WOT it drops to 50 PSI. There also seems to be a slight stumble or hiccup in the engine when at a cruising point on throttle and will go along with the ping/sizzle sound. Even when the cruise is on. Any input or advise on where to go next is appreciated,

Try checking all the connections on the fuel lines you made during the hutch mod. You may still be getting some air, and of coarse the fuel filters. Sizzling sound? Fuel pump maybe, you know where that is, could that be the source of the sound? I always go back after a short while and check clamps on things like intercooler pipes and intakes. Seems like they always need a little more. I guess the boots or fuel lines compress a little. Hope you find it.
Jim.

Thanks Stinson!! I am going to be out tinkering with my truck all day today. Hopefully I can find it! When I hear the "pinging", or what might also sound like predetonation in a gas engine, it definitely lags in power. And feels sorta like a miss but not bad. The sizzling sound i was just trying to explain what the ping kind of sounds like. Its only under throttle (light or heavy) and sounds like bacon frying in an iron skillet. I am leaning towards air in the fuel. I guess a regulated return is in my near future. New injectors is on my list of things to do, so they will go In at he same time I guess. This is driving me nuts!!

Ok so I did a little more driving around today and it's not really a "ping", it's more like someone shaking a spray paint can. I can't figure it out!

Ok boys maybe this will peak your interest. I decided to climb back under my truck and have a closer look. Two things I found:

1) I found a line that came off of my tank

2) Looks like I was a dummy and didn't get rid if the quick disconnect on the suction side of the fuel pump when I did the Hutch/Harpoon.

Would any of these cause my "ping"? What is the line that came off of my tank? What is that little dial on the hose at the tank? Thinking while I'm down there I'll clean the screen in my fuel pump. Is that a good or bad idea? Or can it even be dObe? Fuel pressure drops to 49-50psi at WOT..

I got the lines back on and eliminated the quick connect. Seems to be a lot more quiet and not as much"ping". Still has some, but I think the system will take a bit to get the rest of the air out. Will a Dahl filter directly replace the filter that the Strictly Diesel sells with their Hutch kit?

Well I'm still fighting this issue. I blew a boot the other day and was looking around the engine as I always do and found a single wire that goes from the wiring harness on the drivers side valve cover all the way to the fuse box. Under the hood. It has been soldered on. Any ideas what it is guys? Also still wondering if Dahl filter is a direct replacement for the Baldwin BF1212. Thank you for any info here. I know just enough mechanical skills to be dangerous, but electrical is a whole other animal for me.

Digging around the passenger side I found this exposed wire on the plug that goes into the valve cover. What in the world did the guy that owned this truck before me do? I have no idea if this is a ground or an exposed wire! I really wish I knew about this forum a long time ago. You guys have no idea how much $$ you have saved me just over the last year. Thank you so very much for that. I know I have a lot of questions, please be patient with me, as i am a newbie for sure! Please help me figure this wiring situation out. AE will be on the doorstep tomorrow too! Now I just need a laptop!

That wire at the pigtail is weird. Same wire that runs to the fuse box? Is it hot with key out, or on, or running? Might as well look for burnt pins and ohm them to check the UVCH.

Yes, it is the same wire that runs to the fuse box. How do I ohm out the plug? I have AE will that help? What do you think about the exposed wire loop in the other picture?

possible, he added the "power" wire. Is there a fuse where the red wire connects into panel?

The looped wire at pigtail, does it go anywhere or is it looped? Does/did it have insulation around, that you can see?

Defintely need some new boots/clamps, at the plenums, even some plenum inserts and new T-clamp bolts. That'll keep engine clean of soot.
