Installed a train horn on my 2000 ex 6.8l limited for the commute on rte 128 here in the Boston area. Horn came off a csx train engine. Compressor mounted under the mid seats. I must say, it has added some muscle. Even with the Ex's scary presence, ppl in those econoboxes think they can cut you off and just merge with out looking while texting. Tonight a girl was swerving between the left lane and the right lane which I was in... Texting paying more attention to the phone then the traffic... As she started to come at my door I laid on it and she literally threw the phone... Little harder to tune out the train horn!
I had a similar situation yesterday, guy on his phone in left lane on US1 in Ft. Lauderdale. He started to drift into my lane,so, I let him have it. The only problem was he way over compensated and bounced off the curb on his left. I kinda felt bad for the idiot! I guess I'll have to live with it.
I wouldn't feel bad. Put the phone down. Really. People die because they have to send a damn txt. My new companion will be great on 128! 128
Is hell. It's traffic hell. People would rather hit you then allow you to change lanes, or move at all.
I have a question for you guys, were did you mount the horns? I a set sitting on my tool box in garage just not sure where to install them. It is illegal I believe here in Minnesota to have them but I am with you and every idoit texting or on phone.
I mounted mine right in front of the rear diff. They're angled down a little for better reflection off the pavement, and to keep any water from standing in them. Compressors and tank mounted outside DS framerail. They're great to prompt other drivers to extricate their heads from their gaskets.

Mine would not fit in front of the diff. It's too big. I actually mounted the horns on the driver side, facing forward on the inside of the frame rail between the drive shaft and frame rail. It is bolted up through toe floor where the passengers feet would go. Compressor fit under left middle seat. Mine is an actual train horn, not a blaster kit. I had one of those and it didn't do any justice comparing to what I have now. I got mine from Texastrainhorns.com. call jason, he told me i was the first ti install on an excursion and he was very helpful, and very interested. Even facing forward towards the transfer case the ground literally shakes when I light them up. Now they are illegal but let em get a warrant to search and fine me. I have a switch on the dash to turn the horn off and the compressor off. I don't go around blasting it like a child but it is a fun toy. My nephews love it. If anyone is interested I can post pix, I just don't know how and I think I paid like 400-500 bucks for the complete system. It's on the website.
Bananarama if you could post pictures I would be grateful. Mine are actual train horns also, I got a set from my uncle he found a guy who had 3 sets of 5 horns and like 5 sets of 3 horns. He gave me a set of the 3horns I want to install. So pictures would be great, and like you said they are fun and just can go around blowing them at everyone because you are just asking for trouble.
