Random observations

I have not posted in awhile because I have been having fun with my truck. So I decided to make some random observations.

My wife looks like a boss when driving my truck. She wanted to take the truck for a spin. She dropped me off at the local home improvement store so I could pick up something. When I came back out she was cruising the parking lot. During her approach to pick me up, she had this look of " Don't mess with me! I will run your car over." I told her what she looked like and she laughed. I said be the boss!

Pulling my trailer is fun! I finally got the truck to really stretch its legs for a weekend trip with the boys. 5 mile hill on 80 in PA just seemed like nothing. She pulled proper all the way up without breaking a sweat. When a caravan of RVers dropped into my lane while going up the hill requiring me to basically run into the fast lane. (I had a smooth run going. Jamming on the brakes was going to be a last option. The left lane was open so it was better to move over and keep up the momentum. ) My 6.2 passed those 2 6.7 F350s (they had nice looking duelies BTW) The 2 350s were also pulling 5'er toy haulers and the Dodge coal roller was handling an extreme rock climber jeep. I will admit I was going a bit quicker than I should however I had the choice to move over a lane pass them and drop back in. In their defense, 2 18 wheelers were playing drag race up the hill on them. It also taught me another lesson. Don't go fast with the trailer. The truck can handle it without a problem if there was problem in the future.

I have gone up 5 mile hill in 2 Fords, a Chevy 350 Class C motorhome, and a Dodge. The Chevy makes it however you have to open the windows with the vent on high heat. The Dodge I thought was going to give up by the top. The F150 did better at night then in the day. The 250 did the hill like a champ. That's all I ask for.

What no hot trans temps? The hottest I got the F250 temp wise was 210° F My old F150 was good for 230 on the same hill in the same air temps.

This thing tows nice... when I don't over inflate the air bags. I have impressed my wife with the way the truck handles the trailer and the couple of camping trips we did this summer so far. We are looking forward to the long trip in a week or so.

From the mouth of my wife who does not curse too much. " Why is this person so slow in the middle lane? Holy _____ I'm doing 80!" Yeah I got to slow down a bit. She doesn't realize the kind of speed this truck carries.

Should have taken the truck in on Monday morning. My wife's ride is a 02 Grand Am. Since I got the truck I generally drive that around. She takes the Explorer to places now since it has been useful for what she has been doing. The Grand Am sits a bit more. So i take it out for rides every weekend to keep everything happy. I have given it love and attention. Oil changes, tires, brakes plugs. Always performed maintenance.

The last time my wife took it out, she said there was a noise in the front end. It turned out after I pulled the wheels off, the pads where done. The rotors looked no so hot so I replaced everything. No more front end noise. She takes the car to work. She says the AC doesn't work and there is an exhaust smell from the vents. She said not to worry the Explorer will handle my needs. I take the car for a spin, no smell but the AC needs a recharge. A few weeks goes by before the recharge which I did on Sunday. Everything was perfect. Monday morning I tell my wife it is ok to take the Grand Am out again. She requested I take it into work for a test run to make everything is ok. I complied. 1/4 mile before my exit for my work place, the decides to cut out at 70MPH. I was able to get over shoulder and place a call for the car club towing service.

The only reason why I wanted to take it into work was the 250 was low on gas and I didn't want to spend too much money on gas since vacation is coming up fast. Saving up a few bucks for some extra fun was in mind. When I got back into the 250 I promptly put 50 bucks in it for the rest of the week driving. hence why I said I should have taken the 250 into work. I know I would have made it there.

My daughter likes the truck. She gets disappointed when she can not ride in the 250.

If I could go back and change anything, I would probably want to try 4.30s and/or get a long box. I always had short boxes so I was comfortable. 4.30s just because. I don't feel like the 3.73s are no slouch but from what I read around here, the 4.30s seem to give it a little more pep. However in the overall just really happy with the truck.

My 06 had the 3:73 set and it had plenty of pep for only having the 5.4. When it comes to box size, I havr haf both and not sure which is my pick since they both have their pros and cons. I can see your point about the wife, mine loves to drive my 250 and she will run you over lol. Good luck with the truck.

Ditto on the 5.4L with 3.73s. Does the job for me easily.

My wife also loves driving the truck, although with the new knee not being totally healed it is a bit of a climb for her. She loves "owning the road".

After our trip down through Tennesse and the Smokies hauling our 34ft V-Lite trailer I have no doubt the 6.2 and 3.73's are perfect for me. The thing pulls like a train, just cannot use 6th very much hauling the trailer and really who cares. Everything I ask of it, it just does and does it well. Sure the 4.30's would be fun but I believe the ford engineer from back when the 6.2 was introduced that pulling trailers under 10k the 3.73's are perfect. This thing will absoutely run circles around my 08 4x4 Megacab Dodge with a hemi and 3.73's. I do see a Five Star tune comming in the near future though just for giggles because at almost 70,000 miles I am not worried about warranty anymore.

There is nothing like a hot woman driving a truck (or a beat up car/truck). Just makes them that much more desirable

Maybe I am a freak but a hottie in a truck is reason to stare, and often approach!

More Observations

Train Horn should be on the list of "to dos" Wife does think they will be obnoxious. I think it will wake up the twit on their cell phone doing 60 in the left lane.

Thought about jacking up the truck to have the ability to crush my wife's car. Return truck to stock. Tow carcass to scrap yard. Sell off parts on FTE.

Looking forward to the next camping trip.

I need to wash my truck. It has not been washed in over a month and I have been busy.

I discovered a new sensation. I drove with the windows down the last 2 days. Would have been nice to have a moon roof open.

I encourage others to post their random observations they have about their F250/350 during the course of the day.

About a week ago I was driving buy a house with several kids playing in the yard near the road. Since they were so close to the road I slowed WAY down. As I passed I heard one (about 4 years old) say "look Dad.... a fire truck!" haha.

I love driving my truck..im 6'4 so its super comfortable, but its just nice to drive anywhere. In fact, im about to drive it 110 miles (one way) upto vermont for the night. Everyone thinks its an F16 due to the 03 turbo and 4" exhaust, but it does sound cool. My truck turns heads everywhere, and i get a thumbs up on the way home from work almost every day. Being a CC/LB doesnt bother me at all, ive never really had any problems parking, but i always park way in the back regardless. Built ford tough too
