engine oil temp?

New here so excuse me if this has been discussed here before. I have a 2012 F350 6.7 Powerstroke Diesel. I am pretty much a gage watcher and am wondering what is an acceptable engine oil temp range on these? On flat ground not pulling I am normally running in the 200 +/- range. Pulling a trailer up 6% grade in hot weather it will max out at around 220. Sometimes a little more sometimes a little less depending on conditions and load.

Normal non-towing oil temp seems to be in the 205-210 range. It doesn't take much effort to get it up to 220. After a 2 or 3 miles of 5%-8% grade with my 15,000 lb toyhauler, it can easily see 240 which is when the fan clutch engages. The highest I have seen is 243 and it starts to drop as soon as the fan clutch kicks in, but it doesn't drop as rapidly as I would prefer after the hard pulling is done. The oil cooler on this motor is a lot better than what we have been used to on previous Powerstroke engines, but at the same time they are taxing the oil pretty hard for piston cooling which I believe is why we see the oil temp rise so easily on the 6.7.

Thanks Matt,

Looks like I am certainly in the normal range. BTW, the fan clutch, can you really hear it kick in. I don't think I have ever heard it on mine. Also, trans temps, mine seems to run very consistantly at 190 +/- 2 degrees.

When the fan engages, it is not as noticeable as it is on the 6.0s. Much like the rest of the truck, the fan seems to be more refined and quiet to the point of you almost have to be listening for it to notice it. My 6.0 would roar like a jet engine, but this one only kicks things up a few decibels.

You trans temps seems normal as well. I've seen in the 220 range a few times while tackling mountains with the toyhauler, but under normal situations, I see less than 200.

I just got back from pulling my 5th wheel camper (about 12K lbs) through the Colorado Rockies. On a long pull on I70, I maxed out about 246. When it hit 240, the fans really started getting loud. The turbo was screaming loud but the truck performed beautifully. As soon as I topped the grade, it temp started dropping immediately. I was able to easily hold 50 miles per hour with that load on 6% and 7% grades. First time it happened to me right after I got my truck, I was concerned. Now I don't even blink an eye at it.
