I have a 79 f150 with a 351 V8 in it and the carb has been acting up. Its just a regular 2 barrel carb, nothing fancy, and was rebuilt completly about a year ago. the problem is that when I start the truck in the morning and take off all of the sudden I hear a click, and then the truck jerks like the engine was shut off then turned back on quickly. Now, the click is before the jerk, and the sound seems to be the choke plate closing then opening up again, it makes that type of noise. You know, like when your messing with the carb and you close the choke plate and open it, it makes that noise. Once, i thought I heard it trying to get air when it happened, it made like a sucking noise. Ive messed with everything on the carb and it really hasnt done anything to help. I know or think that the jerk is from the choke cutting off air to the engine, making the engine therefore hesitate. This click and jerk also only happens once or twice a day, and happens quickly. Ive been "disecting" the noise for a while. Oh ya, it happens only when my temp guage is under the C or right on the C, and it happens when Im trying to get up to speed. Any Ideas? Why would the choke plate be closing, then all the sudden open up again? Thanks for any help!

Closing and opening quickly is almost impossible for the choke to do by itself.
Since you hear a click sound and the engine cuts off and on suddenly, I think it's far more likely that you have an ignition/electrical problem. The clicking could be a bad connection to a relay that switches power to the ignition system.
Try checking that out, and ask in the Electrical Systems/Wiring forum.
Well, I partially agree with the electrical problem because ive been having a few problems with my ignition module, I think. But, if that is it, why would it only happen when it is dead cold? Also, I forgot to say earlier that before the engine does its jerk thing and click, it doesnt have a whole lot of power it feels like. It kind of stutters and feels like it bogs down just a bit, and doesnt get up to speed very easily. But after the click and jerk happens it seems to be fine. I can also feel the click through the gas pedal, dont know if that means anything. So, any other ideas or do you think it is electrical?
All the symptoms you describe sound like an ignition/electrical problem, not a choke problem.
As for why it happens when the engine is cold, it might be related to some electrical connection (or other component) that behaves differently after it warms up in the engine compartment.
