I get a KOEO code 31 on my 87 Bronco. The EGR valve is working properly, the EGR valve position sensor is working (bought new a few months ago) and today I put on a new EGR vacuum regulator (solenoid). I still get the code, even after clearing it, it comes back on. Any ideas? Thanks.
A code generally does NOT indicate a bad part - only an unexpected value from a particular system. It's up to you to determine WHY the system is producing the bad signal. If you've eliminated those parts, check the rest - the computer controls the EGR by vacuum lines that are supplied by the intake vacuum thru the reservoir on the R wheelwell. Check for leaks.
I've checked for leaks already. All lines hold vacuum when vacuum is applied with vacuum pump. That's why I don't understand why I'm getting the 31 code especially when all the parts are new or relatively new.
I checked my vacuum lines with a vacuum pump to see if they could hold vacuum. I plugged one end and applied vacuum to the other. It held. So the vacuum lines don't have any cracks.
So how much vacuum does the ENGINE supply?
None since something is not working and I'm getting a code 31.
Are there two different types of EGR posistion sensors (grey or black) that send a different voltage?
Put your vacuum gauge on a port to the intake manifold with the engine running and see what your vacuum is at idle. Then click on the "vacuum" link in my previous post and see what's up.
If you connect your UNcracked vacuum lines to where they belong, do they NOT get some vacuum when the engine runs?
My UNcracked lines DO get vacuum at a steady 19". Does anyone know if there are two different types of EGR valve position sensors available? All my voltages and circuits check out.
Thanks for the idea Steve. I tried that a couple days ago and I got no vacuum. Maybe it's a bad EVR valve, but it's brand new from Ford. That's also why I replaced the old one, because when I put 12v across it I also got no vacuum. The ohms check out between connectors of the EVR, I'm not sure why it's not working, it doesn't click or make any noise. That's what I thought the problem was originally. Maybe there's a bad circut to the EVR that's frying it. I get 10.5V to the EVR with the KOEO. You're right, it should work and send vacuum to the egr when I hook it up to 12 volts, but it doesn't. Damn thing was expensive too.
