What I have, 78 F-150, long box, 2 wheel drive, warmed over 460, C-6, 3.50 locker rear axle, L & L headers. While in the body shop I put on a new brake booster and new master cylinder along with the headers. Now I am leaking or seeping fluid out of the master cyl. Seems to be coming out where the top gasket is. The brake lines are within an inch of the headers and the header is close to the proportioning valve. I am wondering if I am to close and boiling the brake fluid or if I have another problem? Would it help to go to Syn. brake fluid that has a higher boiling point?
From my own experience 90% of replacement M/C's (reman'd and/or new) come with a non-vented lid.... you fill it anywhere past half full and it's gonna leak past the gasket.
The original M/C lids are vented, you can top off the reservoir and they won't leak...
Last one got from the parts store needed to be sanded to smooth out the mating surface between the MC & the lid. And I still think it wouldn't hurt to maybe put a little hedder wrap around the brake lines or let's move them away.
if it doesn't have a small vent hole it will have tomorrow.....
a 1/8th hole drilled in the lid will serve the same function....
The gasket, or rubber diaphragm if you will, acts as a "bellows", it's meant to expand and contract, without a lid vent there's a vacuum created inside the reservoir and it pushes fluid out under the lid gasket.
