So on my trip to the cape this weekend i had another problem. The 2 hour ride down with my slide in camper is something we do a few times a year to go to sandyneck beach. I always run at 65 mph with my cruise set. All the way down and about half way back, no problems. Then the truck started downshifting on hills(almost all) that it never has before.Of course my fuel cosumption almost doubled from normal. With about 10 miles left on my trip the abs light came on then almost right after the check engine light came on. In the past the abs light has come on about 3 or 4 times but has always gone off by itself after i shut the truck off and restart, which it did again this time. Thats a seperate issue which ford never resolved. So does anyone have any experience with their truck having the same loss of power ? any thoughts would be appreciated. I am making an appointment for it tomorrow to see if they can resolve it. The truck has approx. 66k on it.
thanks !!
Sounds like your Turbo needs some TLC, needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Does it sit around a lot, that is to say that it doesn't get driven much? Do you have any gauges that read live data like scan gauge II or one of the smartphone apps like Dashboss for IOS devices or torque pro for android? If not you really need to get some so you can keep an eye on things and be able to diagnosing problems as they arise.
Mustang 309, it does sit alot as you can most likly tell by the milage, and i do have the scan gauge 2. Is taking aprt and cleaning the turbo a big job ? and expensive im sure.. And of course im beyond the 5 year/100k warranty.
Its not a bad job, there are some good YouTube videos by srmastech that show how to remove and clean the turbo. Once you get the turbo cleaned up, make sure you drive it more and take it out on the freeway and stretch her legs a bit, at least weekly.
I always run it at least once a week. The dealer recommended that when i started having calipers freeze up. Just my luck i guess. I no one thing, this will be my last deisel. As much as i use it its just not worth the added expenses and headaches. Heavy price to pay for a learning experience......
